Cereal #138: Original Chips Ahoy! 

This is not my first “cookie” cereal. I’ve done the store brand “Kookies” from Publix, Giant, and Aldi to the real deal Cookie Crisp and even with sprinkles.

So...going in I am thinking, “this is just going to be another knock-off of General Mills’ cookie greatness.

Au contraire, mon frere!

This is like the guy who invented Cookie Crisp got let go from some sort of tragic General Mills downsizing. Lost, confused, and maybe even a bit disillusioned, he was quickly scooped up by the people at Post and led to the big boss man’s office. The boss sat him down and said he wanted Cookie Crisp.

“We NEED Cookie Crisp dammit! ....but even better.”

Said disgruntled Cookie Crisp inventor went back to his new office for a few days and re-emerged with this.

I have no doubt the people he worked with tried it and said things like, “this stuff is so good we need to throw a REAL cookie brand on the front of the box!”

And that’s how Chips Ahoy! cereal came about.

I didn’t think it was possible to top the original Cookie Crisp, but these hit the mark. 

They are WAAAAAAAAAAAY more chocolatey. Somehow they have more cookie mouthfeel. And while it pains me a bit to say it...these are far superior to Cookie Crisp.

A group of children came in, all eating from a box of cookies.

I said, “Hey guys, there’s no eating in the library.”

One of the children silently offered me a cookie,

“Oh! Thanks!” I said “I didn’t see anything.” And walked away.
