The "chimb-" Root in Spanish
For the most part, you would agree that words that have same root are related, right? Let's take at a few words in spanish with chimb-Â root. These words were learned from a friend in MedellÃn, Colombia. I'm not sure if these words are used everywhere in Colombia, but I believe they are.
IMPORTANT: All of these words listed below are NOT OKAY to use with elders/people of respect. This is to be used with friends in informal situations.
1. chimbiar/chimbear- to annoy/bother/mess with
You'll see this verb written in either one of these ways because it's a slang word in Spanish.  Note that when this verb is conjugated into its tenses, that i will be changed for an e. Take a look at the few samples below.
yo chimbeo
tú (vos) chimbeas
él/ella/usted chimbea
As long as you know how to conjugate, you'll be able to figure out how to pattern works.
2. chimba-
This one isn't as straight forward as one the above. This word changes its meaning depending on the situation and the way it is used in the sentence.
A. ¡Qué chimba! - That's (fucking) cool!/That's bitchin'!/
Really, the English translation is up to you as long as the meaning is something along the lines of being cool or awesome. "Qué chimba" means something great!
B. La chimba
The phrase "La chimba" can be used when you want to make it a point that something unfair was done to you or does something bad against you.
Example:
You find out that your mom gives your brother $10.00 but she only gives you $5.00. To that you say "La chimba!" -that's not fair!
*La chimba can also be used when somebody tells you to do something that you really don't want to do.
3. Chimbo- cock/dick/penis
That's really all there is to say about this one.
Any questions or comments, please leave them. I want to know what you think.
