To those who don’t know, my country is currently fighting as one for their rights.

Our president preaches about Chile being an oasis in Latin America where nothing is wrong. LET ME TELL YOU... it’s not...

Our elders live in precarious conditions with monthly incomes of less that $200 US Dollars. That isn’t enough to pay for our expensive basic needs such as electricity, water and FOOD.

The minimum wage is less than $400 US dollars... which is what majority of the middle working class earns. And many have family, which means aside from the basic needs they have to pay for school and transportation for both their children and themselves. TRANSPORTATION IS EXPENSIVE HERE. I used to work for minimum wage and half of my paycheck was used for traveling and I have a college debt as well, I usually ended the month with nothing more than $30 dollars to buy bread, cheese and milk and that’s all I could buy because food is equally expensive too. I coped with this for a year because I needed the experience to apply for a better job.

Healthcare is a joke here... they keep you in waiting lists endlessly and private clinics are... you can guess....... EXPENSIVE! A simple doctors visit can cost around $50 to $80 dollars and that doesn’t include what you’ll probably spend in checkups and medications... don’t even get me started there... it pisses me off just to think about it.

Among other social problems.

And all this problems are hidden beneath the sea, the tip of the iceberg which detonated us to protest was a raise in the metro tickets... people outside think we’re making a huge scene just for a small raise in transportation cost... Santiago’s metro tickets are the most expensive on the country, mind you.

IT’S FUCKING NOT JUST THE RAISE ON METRO TICKET!

I fight today so my mom can have a good retirement in 4 years. I fight for my brother so he can finish studying without going through what I went through. I fight for our elders so they can live whatever time they have left without thinking about how much money they have left at the end of the month. I fight for our students so they have a better education system. AND I fight for the children of this country, so they can see a better future. 

If this makes me a revolutionary and a rioteer... then SO BE IT! I’D BE ONE WITHOUT AN OUNCE OF SHAME.
