Ough. He was a lonely, poor, likely bullied autistic kid in the city, filled with anxiety and probably never really taken seriously. They wanted to leave, but couldn't because getting a place to live is too expensive. The systems of the world are deliberately stacked against him, because the world runs on money. So they fantasize about a world like the ones in the fantasy books they would read, ones where anything is possible and everything works out in the end. And then he learns there's a prophecy, a prophecy supposedly destined to happen, and as a lonely, scared, trapped kid, he clings hard to it. They don't care what new world the Demigod brings, because whatever the Demigod has in mind has to be better than this nightmare that they, as well as many other people who are suffering needlessly, are currently living. This hope, this promise etched into the universe itself that someday things would change, becomes a huge source of comfort for him; and then when it finally almost happens and he travels to the epicenter in the hope of actually getting to see it occurring close-up, he finds out that Chikn cancelled it. OUGH.
