"Tasting" Every Moment
Last night, I enjoyed a delicious chicken rice dinner at the Chick Fun restaurant in Taman Melaka Raya. On the surface, it seemed that I had enjoyed a dinner with a cozy, luxurious ambience.
If someone were to order from the menu, he or she would be pleasantly surprised to discover that the foods were reasonably priced, with a standard plate of chicken rice (roasted or steamed) at only RM9.90! Nowhere could someone find such a price for a "luxury" food whether in Melaka or Kuala Lumpur these days.
I ordered a bigger portion of roasted chicken rice this time around (about RM20.90). It was a hearty ala carte meal, complete with soup and rice.
However, what attracted me isn't the meal itself. As I savored every bite, a thought came to me - that life should be enjoyed slowly, deliberately, with no rush or hurry.
The "destination" is in the journey itself. It is about fully enjoying (or "tasting") every moment to get where we want to be that matter, regardless of the outcome(s).
Peruvian Chicken Rice Green Sauce Recipe
A tasty one-dish meal with Asian flavors that includes soft chicken, fragrant jasmine rice, and brightly colored mixed vegetables.
Ingredients: 1 cup jasmine rice. 1 lb boneless, skinless chicken thighs, diced. 2 cloves garlic, minced. 1 small onion, chopped. 1 cup mixed vegetables such as carrots, bell peppers, and peas. 2 tablespoons soy sauce. 1 tablespoon oyster sauce. 1 teaspoon sesame oil. Salt and pepper to taste. 2 cups chicken broth.
Instructions: Set a big pan on medium heat and add some oil to it. Add the chopped onion and garlic and cook until the onion and garlic smell good. Put in the diced chicken thighs and cook until they turn brown. Soy sauce, oyster sauce, and sesame oil should all be added at this point. Add pepper and salt to taste. Bring the chicken broth and jasmine rice to a boil. Turn down the heat, cover, and let it simmer for 20 minutes, or until the rice is done and the liquid is gone. Before you serve, use a fork to fluff up the rice.
