Rainbow falls at Nongrait, Cherapunji, Meghalaya, northeast India, is amazingly beautiful. The white of the falls, the blue water below, rocks and the green, a perfect combo of colours. It was a long hike from Tirna, which includes a descent of 3,500 steps, walk past the living roots bridges, and a hike along a desolate path to the falls. What a treat when you finally reach there. If you do a day trip remember you have to go back the same way you came and up the 3,500 steps! Hiked in 2019. #outexploringagain #rainbowfallsnongriat #cherapunji #meghalayatourism #travelphotography #yourshotphotographer #exploretocreate #indiatravelblogger #travel #amazinghikes #waterfalls (at Rainbow Falls, nongriat Forest, cherrapunjee) https://www.instagram.com/p/CLY4e2FHMPw/?igshid=127yip2eazvql

Lesser known places to visit in Cherrapunji, Meghalaya
Majestic falls, spellbound living root bridges, crystal clear lakes, lofty hills, mysterious clouds, monstrously ancient caves, clean villages, gorgeous greens.. Enhances the charm of this exotic piece of land which has become the most popular place to visit in India, if one is in search of tranquility. I found the most Placid one to be a not so popular and not so frequently visited establishment by a KHASI family that falls on the your way towards Nonekhali falls. Several tourist vehicles passed over ignoring the welcoming smile of the guard who happens to be a member of that particular family. Though I found the place to be worth visiting as soon as my eyes fell on that rustic beauty, but my partner wouldn’t waste time over something that’s not in the itinerary. Eventually, after a bit of discussion our car was parked in front of the gate. The same guard smiled with delight of having a guest and went inside the ticket counter. The charge was minimum as compared to the richness of the place. There was this beautiful man made bamboo pathway across the lush, golden paddy field. It was so peaceful to walk over it looking at the orange rays of the sun kissing the joy fields. At the end of the pathway were three traditional khasi cottages each having a cooking space that included the cooking equipments used by khasi people. There were few tribal stuffs like hunting equipments. One could make out that all these were in frequent usage. The clicks taken over there were the best ones. Something happened while returning back that touched by heart deeply and shall dwell forever in my memories. A little boy probably of that particular family was playing in the fields with what- a broken bucket, yes… He was happy with that. While watching us return he ran towards me inquired “kaise laga ye jagah? Acha laga.? Aur ghumo…. Wo dekho ghora, bahut sundar hai na.” (Did you like the place? It’s beautiful, isn’t it? Roam around a bit longer. See theres a horse pointing towards one grazing on the field) I smiled and waved at him. Just when I turned back he softly said, “fir aana hai” (Visit again) and sadly ran towards his spot in the field. I felt sad about the fact that the little boy understands the need of receiving frequent visitors, a need of a crowd to attract guest to his place. He understands at this tender age that he must strive and to make his place a popular one. I also felt happy that my being there for 20 minutes could bring a hope in their lives. I really hope that next time when I visit Nonekhali falls, I find the rustic Khasi cottages flooded with crowd of visitors on my way…. !! Well someday!!
Nongriat has impacted me so much that it definitely has created a special place in my heart, for all the beauty it had on offer and the bonds created with Mr KitKat Chocolate & Bines, the late night carom match, the random Live music at the guest house, the music of water gushing through the falls and the awesome group I had on trip and the thought that these moments were soon going to end... Leaving Nongriat with a heavy heart was the most difficult task besides the cliff jumping during the whole Meghalaya trip with only hope that I'll come back soon...
