I think they work in this instance as the settled, very comfortable with each other and their boundaries old married couple type thing, where they can also sleep with others and have it not take away from what they have together. maybe they met in a bar when they were around 20 and daniel was his wild charming self but also a bit goofy because he hasn't had his glow up yet, and checo is a bit shy (the language barrier also playing a part) and vibing by himself sipping on some tequila, but then daniel starts talking to him and the more they talk checo starts feeling more comfortable and daniel sees the fun side of him too and develops a big fat crush. daniel gives checo his number and expects nothing in return really but he gets a call and they start going out pretty quickly after that.

then enters max, supposed to be another one of their flings who daniel met in a bar one night. daniel asked if he'd be interested in sleeping with him and his husband, and max was really into daniel so he said yes real quick. he hasn't had a threesome before, but daniel was too hot to pass up and he bet his husband had to be hot too. when meeting checo he wasn't what he expected to find at first but it made sense the more he spent time with the two of them, checo being sweet and patient with daniel and also having a cute accent. max definitely took a liking to both of them really easily and didn't regret saying yes to daniel for even a second. the sex was also amazing 10/10 would do again. and they do do it again. both checo and daniel end up liking max so they break their usual but unspoken rule of not sleeping with the same person twice.
