I'm now in possession of my own Haggadah, which was passed along to me out of an Amazon mystery box. It was given to me by someone very keenly aware of my love for learning about culture and religion. This was also just over a week after buying the first two concert tickets. March was an intense month.
A couple of friends have volunteered to answer any questions I had, so I asked about the charoset. It usually has nuts, and I'm allergic, so it was a practical question. Also the only real one I've been able to really come up with, and only because it's a practical one.
Anyway, it left me thinking about how Judaism forbids folks from actions that would harm yourself. And the question of accommodations versus tradition, and I had a thought about it. Given what the charoset represents, it's an interesting idea that it would, in the recipe that includes nuts, be valid to acknowledge the working conditions for the slaves under Pharaoh that would have killed disabled people.
If any actual Jewish folks want to jump in and add their own thoughts, I'm sincerely happy to read them! Also wishing y'all safety, because the world is scarier than usual these days.
