Charles Barkley, who graduated from Leeds High School back in 1981, has donated $1,000 to every Leeds City School system employee. “We are humbled and wish to express our sincere gratitude to Charles Barkley for providing a $1,000 gift to each and every Leeds City Schools employee for going the extra mile this school year,” the school announced on Facebook. “Being a school employee is tough, but driving a bus, teaching, coaching, or working in the cafeteria, all while maintaining safety protocols, has been a daunting task during a worldwide pandemic.” The page goes on to say that this gesture is just the latest show of support from Barkley. It’s noted that over the past three decades, Barkley has provided more than $3 million in scholarship money to hundreds of Leeds graduates to attend college along with being a big supporter of the boys and girls basketball programs. During the COVID-19 pandemic, Charles has helped in other ways by donating laptops for virtual learners along with Wifi hotspots, and securing donations from the Clorox Corporation to help the Leeds school staff keep the facilities sanitary over the past year. This generosity just adds to the legacy of giving back to educational institutions for Charles Barkley.
