hi!! i just started following you through the corvidae re-run (absolutely love your blog and am devastated to learn that i missed the paridae tournament btw). i'm curious if you have future tournaments planned out ahead of time or if you just go with whatever you're vibing with in the moment? super excited regardless! sorry if you've answered this a million times lol, mobile tumblr is a pain

I don't really have a plan for future tournaments, but I have several folders on my laptop with tournament ideas (some with pictures already, and for some I'll search for pictures when I have time).
When I finish a tournament I do a poll on here with several ideas from my folders and you guys get to choose which one you want! I just try to switch things up a little (like if the last two tournaments were mammals I'll only select birds and others).
It's hard to find good tournament ideas for animals that aren't mammals or birds though, because there's often like 1,000+ members in the families and that would make a really long tournament.
I always welcome tournament ideas, I just put them in my folders.
Hot takes about taxonomy? Well I don't know if it counts as a hot take, but when some species are virtually the same visually it's a pain in the ass to try to identify them and it makes my job way harder when collecting pictures for this blog...who knows, maybe some of the pictures I've chosen aren't the correct species!

Perfect camouflage. This plover is standing in front of a washed up tree limb covered in barnacles. This was only my 3rd time going to the ocean so I had never seen barnacles before!
