Here are other minor signs you might want to look out for (doesn't apply to all Mad Scientist):
Very pathetic. A loser, if you will
Is gay
Wears glasses
Has a best friend who is extremely friendly and also a poet
Graying hair despite their relatively youthful appearance
Can be a little bit silly (as a treat)
Note that not all Mad Scientists are actual scientists. The Mad Scientist can be disguised as something else and may try to trick you; do not be fooled. Look for these traits to identify a real wild Mad Scientist.

Why is the gambler archetype character always some sort of charismatic suitguy with a playing card/roulette/slots/poker etc motif. I propose.. my character design concept for this character trope in a way I've never seen anyone else do it before: gacha motifs (the vending machine itself, capsules, tickets, crystals, stars and letters which are often associated with rarities in trading cards or gacha video games, trading cards themselves, other possible contents of a gacha vending machine, maybe blind bags/boxes or loot boxes since they're kind of an adjacent thing anyway) AND they're dressed in some variety of harajuku/other category of J-alt-fashion with a distinct gamer and anime nerd vibe. I am so smart
Hear me out : the calmest, most composed and reasonable character is actually this way only because it's a mask they constructed and struggle at every second to maintain in order to hide the undescribable violence inside of them, which could lead them to become a murderer if unleashed...And they don't want that.
In addition to this : This character is some sort of protector figure, and extremely loyal and devoted, which ironically are the reasons for them to snap one day, when their beloved is in danger, and they come close to killing the person responsible. Now, they have successfully saved Beloved...Who is profoundly horrified and shocked because they had never known so much cruelty was hiding behind this gentle calm. Angst ensues.

Traits/Tropes that I love (& used for my OCs) 2
- Hero, immune to all type of brainwashing powers, romantically ends up with the mind-control powered person. ("Are you sure mind control doesn't work on you?" "Shut up.")
- Hero has A TYPE. It's always the "androgynous TWINK with a beautiful face and has psychic powers". Problem is most of their types are from the enemy territory.
- Toxic and dysfunctional hero & villain couple but are decent parents to their kids. They both know parenting is very important from their own experiences.
- Enemies & Lovers with two kids, but that belligerent intimate tension still stays strong.
Hero: (voice, soft but barely containing anger) Do you know where your dad is?
Kid 1: Dad said he's at his hideout..!!!! (quickly covers their mouth after realizing what they said)
Hero: Oh. (Refrigerator handle crushes in a way it should not be)
Kid 1: ('oh-shit' face)
Hero: Kids, mommy's gonna have a... little conversation with daddy, so if we're late, leftovers are in the fridge. (Violently opens the door)
Kid 2: What is wrong with you!!? Oh, dad is sooooo dead!
Kid 1: I didn't intend to!! Shit, shit, SHIT-

Kid 2: (opens the front door) I'm home! Hey, where's mom and dad?
Kid 1: (Turns on the TV by remote without looking, eyes still fixed on the book they're reading) ("Breaking News: Hero vs. villain on the ●■○□ avenue" and intense fight happening shown on the screen)
Kid 2: (Picks up their phone) Pizza?
Kid 1: Pizza it is.
- Hero & Villain's child has superpowers (because, genetics) but hides this from them. They are worried that their parents would coerce to join their sides, and are already hearing this in a daily basis ("My child would be a perfect hero/villain if they have superpowers"). They are just SO fed up.
- They are now a vigilante, and both Hero and Villain's sides are keeping an eye on them, since they are messing up with both sides.
- The first person to figure out their identity? Villain's (self-acclaimed) archenemy. Archenemy used to have a lovehate relationship (NEVER MUTUAL & one-sided) & be very obsessed with the villain.
- How did they realize this? Villain's child has the same iconic, unhinged smile that they can never forget. Archenemy knows that Villain is married and has a child, so the logical explanation would be: Vigliante is Villain's child.
- After hearing about Vigilante's situation, instead of blackmailing, archenemy becomes a parental figure they need, tutors essential and useful skills, and genuinely gives their full support to them.
Why?
1) They find this situation very interesting, and IF their parents figure out about: their nemesis knew their identity before the, blood-related, parents did, OH, NOW THAT'S A DRAMA THEY WOULD NEVER FORGET.
2) They are married now and have kids. As a parent, and probably Vigilante's not much older than their kids, Archenemy sees them more as a child to be taken cared of.
3) Projection. (No explanation needed.)
- Civilian, having an aro/ace hero bestie (since childhood) and also a roomie & dating with the villain (straight).

Hero: YOU'RE DATING WITH MY NEMESIS?!!
Villain: YOU'RE LIVING WITH MY NEMESIS!!??
Civilian: (shyly) uhh... I can explain.
older sibling characters that have been dealt with the shittiest of cards in life, who struggle to keep their family afloat, who have witnessed grief and tragedy at a young age that will later force them to develop a hard exterior in order to protect themselves from the cruelties of the world. older sibling characters with a chip on their shoulder. older sibling characters who are overprotective of their younger siblings because they fear the world will be even crueler to those they love.
older sibling characters with anger issues and are meanspirited because they refuse to let the narrative soften them after all the shit they went through.
