For years and years, Roisin's story has been "Whispers agent deep under cover in the Priory" and over time it's got more involved. Because I still enjoy writing/building stuff for the Elder Dragon Saga and not moving on to soto/JW stories, hurr.
I've paid her up with a few characters but none of them felt *right*. First there was my canthan-background norn mesmer, but I killed her off the roster. Then I paired her with Alexis, human ele aligned with Dwayna, Zephyrites, and Crystal Bloom, but man she had enough going on, it didn't feel right.
Finally, Mariela popped out, and her story worked a bit better. Now I've been rotating the two in my head and things seem to be working better.
Here, have some timelines.
Roisin:
1304: Born. Stuff happens.
1320: Joins the Order of Whispers
1321: Gets her first batch of kills. Evaluated and promoted to Agent
1323: Mission went wrong, her work-partner got killed. Few months later, promoted to Lightbringer.
1325: Personal story happens. Serenity (human Commander) doing all the things, and Whispers higher ups are getting suspicious of her, and starting to make connections to other people in the Fae family getting involved.
1326: Whispers move Roisin to the Priory to gain intel on anything to be found about the Fae family.
1327: LS2 begins and Roisin has found a Fae who is somewhat unaware of what her lineage is, but is happy to talk about what she knows (Kyra's family and so on). Forms a good bond and is 100% on board with manipulating the situation to get intel.
1330: Lake Doric sort of timeline. Promoted to Magister within the Priory and kind of has a thing with Mariela at this point.
1332: End of Season 4 where all the Fae family secrets are pouring out everywhere, Roisin comes clean and tells Mariela who she really is, cos Roisin has feeeeelings. Feelings are icky. Feelings make her week.
Mariela:
1297: Born to Whispers agents who are just vibing.
1302: Parents sent off to a long term mission, leave Mari' to Kyra's parents. She and Kyra had a pretty good relationship until Kyra had to focus more on her studies, and family goings on. (Abaddon and demons, yay)
1310: Kyra's parents can find very little magical aptitude with Mariela, so boot her out of the house, and as a "fun" parting gift, they tell her that her parents were killed by the Order of Whispers. This was a deliberate lie, as they didn't want Mariela going to the Whispers to look for info on her parents, and they also knew Ruby's connection to the Order, so even more reason to keep Mari' away from that.
1315: Mariela does a lot of traveling across Kryta and beyond. Taking voyages across the water to far flung places.
1326: (S1). Comes back to Kryta, joins up with the Pact, seeks out Kyra to maybe say hi. Is stationed near to the Priory with everything in S1 going on. Doesn't join the Priory, but does the odd bit of grunt work for them what with being stationed nearby.
1327: Gets to know Roisin and is like "Hey, cool lady"
1330: "Cool lady" has progressed to "Oh no, there's 2 of us and we only have one bed" Mariela has feeeeeelings (tm) (Spoiler: Roisin does not)
1332: Oops, Roisin caught the feelings. Oops, Mariela is not okay (tm) with being played with for the past few years.
And so it takes some time, and with all the spillover of what happens post-season 4, into icebrood saga, Roisin and Mariela do get together. So yay, happy ending.

I was watching a playthrough when they got to this section and something about the wording snagged in my mind and since I already had a save pretty close to that point I decided to grab some screenshots...initially skipping by the puzzle guy.
"Since it was just the three of us, it should work without any issues."

Recently I saw a couple of posts speculating about Clover paralleling Dess. Among Clover's dislikes are the numbers two and four... when it comes to the prophecy there's a bit of speculation about characters being swapped out or removed...
Once again, Dr. Eve is a little late to the party, but you must understand that even 11 days into the year, I am already a month and a half behind on everything I wish I could have been doing.
So instead of lamenting my unfinished fanfics and the cross-stitch that's been in box jail since the end of November, we're going on an adventure with Eyjafjalla.
Fair to say, that I didn't finish anything during the rerun last time. It was right after New Year's and let me tell you... I was not in the mood for that at all.

EyjaBerry is THE best medic so far in my experience. She's not just a single target Wandering Medic like the rest of the Berries, her skills just make healing trivial the way W'Alter manages to make dealing damage feel trivial.
Her S1M3? Unlimited and covers 2 people at the same time.
S2M3? Become an AOE Shining, but better for all I know, because I don't have her. Would I have pulled for her now? Absolutely, she is doing a much better job protecting my allies from the enemy than anybody else could.
I'm sorry Lumen, despite Dr. Pinkie's constant confusion between the words, being a Wanderer and a Therapist are two different things and you specialize in the things you do.
S3M3? Don'tDieInator3000, global.

Last time I saw Sw'Alter actually being used was during the Icebreaker Event and it was because Dr. Pinkie had the ingenious idea to use her bottles to charge the machines. For any players out there, you know what I am talking about.
After ages of playing this game, I finally realized that some peaceable objects like that charge the SP machines just like that.
She looks good though. Merchant. With Lee and Mr. Nothing, I don't need another DP-leech for the job.
I'm comparing her to Lee, so Sw'Alter seems to have less health, but better damage in the base stages. Her abilities have a funky range.
S1M3 - Medic defenders all over the place with 1 block.
S2M3 - A typical Trapmaster ability
S3M3 - An unlimited duration skill, with a knockback that

If there were characters who were thrown in a black hole never to be seen again, it's Conviction and Poncirus. From what I know about the story, she only shows up at the end too.
We've been talking with the other Doctors about how recently the characters who are featured on the banner alongside the 6 star are completely irrelevant story-wise.
None of the new Babel characters were ever shown up. They weren't even FROM Babel.
These gripes aside,
Compared to Texas, exact same S1 with the same 12 DP, wait time and everything on M3. However, what I just found out was that her second skill actually looks pretty good.
She's with better health, less attack and better defence on the Max levels. Defensive Pioneer Vanguards have served me better than offensive ones.

Bryophyta is in a weird spot because he's an Instructor in a world where only 5 in total exist. Which isn't a few, but it's not a lot either.
Pallas is the best by a margin because of Bryo's 5-star debuff (and he's a shop-erator), but since he's Dr. Lundi claimed, I have to say something nice about him or the sniper on the roof next door is going to get me.
I feel like all of them would benefit from the INS-Y Module, being able to be deployed on a ranged tile extends their versatility better since their whole gimmick is 'Don't Block for Damage'.
His S1M3 is a delight to see. The second the words 'Next attack' show up on screen I feel power. Nothing to write home about though.
But what about his S2M3----
Oh. Stuns self. Okay. I didn't need him anyway.

That was all for the operators. Now to the event itself.
Did I read anything out of this event's story? I did not.
Would I let Pinkie explain everything to me? They did.
Did I love the trailer and the music? You bet.
Did I hate the event? Entirely.
You see, while I do like this 'being forced to think' situation during events, especially for EX or S stages because I understand that the enjoyment of the game is as much gimmick and working with what you have, as it is... a strategy game.
However, Dr. Eve being Eve, I end up thinking myself into a corner. The operators I level up aren't always the ones that I need.
Very rarely in fact.
Look at my wife's list. Look at my husband's list! Not a single person can handle 3 enemies at once unless they are a defender. Nobody does enough damage the way I needed them to.
I guided Dr. Kryo through SL-S-5 and some of the earlier challenges and he was adamant that he didn't want a W'Alter guide. I respect that, we're all quirky and he didn't get a W'Alter during her run. It worked out well for him.
I knew he struggled for the CM on SL-S-4 because we were in call during the time and I was crying about SL-S-3 CM, thinking 4 and 5 would be worse.
Mind you, this man thinks when he levels up (most of) his characters though. Mudrock Max, Ines, Kal'tsit, Blaze, Hoshi.
He got Mlynar, he has Logos, EyjaBerry.
The last time we struggled so much was during Stultifera. A LONG time ago, because back then - me nor Dr. Kryo had Lappland.
I didn't even try to think too hard about the levels at first. EX-1 to 8 were absolutely fine, S-1 and 2, even 3 were great. I managed S-5 in three tries or something with Kryo guiding me since it was late and I didn't feel like thinking.
I spent an entire afternoon on SL-S-4 CM.
Watched every single video guide. Nothing worked.
I couldn't manage to put down bottles for Lundi's Ex'Alter in the top blue exit.
DP not enough at any point.
Why are these bottles taking so long???
My Mudrock wasn't strong enough when I needed W'Alter. She was also not lvl90 or S3M3.
Instead of Mudrock, why not use Penance, she's mean to handle more enemies, right? Wrong. Gets eaten alive by the sheep. You're starting to understand who was being problematic.
My Kal'tsit isn't lvl90 and only S3M1, which was not enough.
Also don't have the modules for Mudrock, nor for Kal.
My allies kept dying on the bottom side. Hoshiguma was useless, using Nian for her innate skill was perfect.
They kept leaking past the 15/20 enemy count. Bam, put Shu behind Nian.
I figured out that the leakage mainly happened topside. I need someone who could do a lot of damage to a lot of people in a line since the magician goats are being a bother.
Hoederer S2M3 but his second phase for the +1 block count. He's too slow, that's not S3, what was I even thinking???
I don't have Ines and Silverash/Puzzle doesn't work the way she does.
I don't have Ascalon. I don't have Reed Alter. I don't have Mlynar.
Logos instead of Eyjafjalla does wonders for my mental health though.
Freaking Kazdelian Bubbling Hotpot, why are my Ling's dragons so easily perishable, she's lvl60 with the module.
Fiddled with this video for a little bit, but my ability to look with one eye in one direction and use the other for the other direction really made things unfortunate when I had to manage Pinecone's skill and also block the oncoming enemies.
If that doesn't work out, fine.

For this week, we think we will focus on one of our newest WIPs to be introduced, The Rapunzel Witch!
The Work In Progress:
This story was honestly supposed to just be a tiny drabble or short story about the shenanigans of a Queen, a Knight, and the Rapunzel who would really rather just stay in the Tower. Long story short: things got way out of hand.
The story is more going to be scenes ands soft plot points, since we really want this story to be a little more soft work and fickle timelines like normal fairytale retellings.
Honestly, this is one of the few stories where we don't have a clear path forward, and we are, for all intents and purposes, just absolutely rolling random dice and hoping for the best.
The Characters:
The Queen and the Knight are the only two people who have actual names at the moment and no, we did not think this through when we first introduced them. Angelina came when we were trying to figure out a part of the story, and we just came up with Bartlebee when we created the WIP Intro Post.
A small detail about the names and characters is that every one of them will hold a "namesake" or word that is supposed to help define them. You can see this with, "the Adored Angelina," and "the Beloved Bartlebee." We don't think that we will always match the name to the namesake, but who knows!
When first writing the Rapunzel's Witch, we forgot about the tiny little fact that the Queen was married. And so apparently, there is a King roaming around the Castle, and they are not under supervision, if something catches fire, we will now blame them.
The Writing Process:
This is one of the few stories that we aren't doing massive prepping and planning for. It kind of went from a small random story idea into its own thing, so they story is a little chaotic at the moment, but we are kind of happy of this story that is unfolding as it goes!
We kind of had a little trouble with the Tumblr Post regulations - we were a dumb and did not understand some of the things - so we might actually go back and shift things around so the flow is a bit better with the story.
Writing this kind of was nice, and for the writing process, we definitely took more inspiration from Disney's Rapunzel, but also this lovely story called, The Errant Prince, that we have read about. We wants the writing vibes to be the same as these ones, though we might put in some major conflicts in there at some point too.

Okay, so! OC traditions!
Lyric, being a pony, travels back to her hometown of Faroefield to celebrate Hearth’s Warming Eve with her family! Her family consisting of her mother and father, her sister and brother-in-law, her niece and nephew, and some found family she’s bonded with along the way. They all like to gather together and catch up with one another while also singing carols and exchanging stories. With Lyric being asked to put on a performance at least once, of course. She is a wandering bard after all!
For Ginger, I don’t recall if witches in the Magic World celebrate Christmas or not. It’s been a while since I’ve read Sugar Sugar Rune. But regardless, her mentor Cappuccino (who is also a witch) has spent years in the Human World herself and has picked up on some of the traditions, such as decorating. And oh boy, does Cappuccino love to decorate! So with Ginger residing in the Human World for much of her story and with Cappuccino as a mentor and having human friends, she’d probably at the very least pick up on the traditions of decorating and gift giving as well if she did not in fact have these traditions in the Magic World! Either way, I could see Ginger celebrating a quiet, cozy Christmas at home (whether that be with her parents in the Magic World or with Cappuccino and their familiars Mocha and Marshmallow in the Human World), sitting by the fire, sipping cocoa, and exchanging gifts with the ones she loves.
Now Rose is very close to her family, and she has a HUGE family! At least on her mother’s side. Her father’s side is smaller and more scattered. But regardless! Her mother’s family always orchestrates a HUGE gathering for Christmas and she and the others attend! Along with any friends that are brought along, significant others, people that have simply been adopted as family, and what-have-you. It’s chaotic and cozy and Rose wouldn’t have it any other way. On a smaller scale, though, she’d also have a quieter celebration at home with her mom and step-dad. (Her dad was a pilot in the Great War and died during his service when she was young.) And with her step-dad being a minister and Rose not being religious at all, they would probably get into some fun debates. And I legitimately mean fun. She and Roy have an amazing relationship and she often thinks of him as her dad just as he often thinks of her as his daughter.
And lastly, Tina! Now Tina also celebrates Christmas, but like Rose she isn’t religious at all. She’s more in it for the fun. Especially since my friend @neoninkstains helped me decide that December 25 is also her birthday! So LOTS of lines and quips from her with her being a bit of a smartass and being such a huge flirt. XD So while I’m not entirely sure how Tina would celebrate — if it would be something loud and flamboyant or if it would be more quiet for her — she at the very least would have a few drinks. Probably celebrate with those she’s close to. Perhaps even Rose would find time to celebrate with her, since they did date at one time and are (usually) still quite close.
Also an honorable mention for New Year’s Eve with Tina and Rose! These two are such party fiends that they would ABSOLUTELY let loose and celebrate! They would definitely find a good party to attend and do so, perhaps accompanying each other if they don’t have dates of their own, and definitely drinking a lot and having fun socializing to ring in the new year.

Reasons nobody asked for why Love Love Love by The Mountain Goats fits really well with Mortimer from For a Few Dollars More.
The tone of the Mountain Goats has a nice introspective Western feel to me, though most of their songs have more specific modern stories to them (I totally recommend them as a band in general, it was @mtgoats who recommended them to me first and then a few days later I learned that my boyfriend’s favourite album of all time is one of theirs.
Anyways, the long and short of it is that I associate this song a lot with introspective Mortimer, smoking his pipe and thinking alone. I think of this as mostly in the context his love for his sister, and the horrible disillusionment he felt when he learned of her fate.
The first verse is very much the decision, possibly to leave the army and pursue justice/revenge:
King Saul fell on his sword when it all went wrong
And Joseph's brothers sold him down the river for a song
And Sonny Liston rubbed some Tiger Balm into his glove
Some things you do for money and some you do for love love love
There’s a transition from despair to fighting there, and an admission that he’ll have to change his life entirely to accomplish this goal. The parallels only become more poignant in the second verse, which I think is a bit of an aftermath of his first few kills as a bounty hunter.
Raskolnikov felt sick but he couldn't say why
When he saw his face reflected in his victim's twinkling eye
Some things you'll do for money and some you'll do for fun
But the things you do for love are going to come back to you one by one
There’s such a sense of knowing how much this experience will make him a different man. But what’s to be done about that? I feel like this next verse is enter Manco:
Love love is going to lead you by the hand
Into a white and soundless place
Now we see things as in a mirror dimly
Then we shall see each other face to face
This verse speaks to parallels between them, how perhaps Mortimer sees parts of himself in Manco. Then the last verse is a reflection, perhaps, on a partnership lost, and perhaps a sense of purpose lost (jibes a little with @mcicioni-blog‘s fic.

Rin looked out over the rooftops of Piltover, trying to ease her mind. Most times, views of the open sky calmed her thoughts, but today her mentality was incredibly overloaded with her own demons. She sighed, sitting down on the edge of the clock tower and pulling a snack of dried fruits and meats out of her pack.
“I don’t get it...” Rin heaved again, laying on her back against the decorated and intricate tiles of the Piltovian building. She began talking to herself in an attempt to sort out her thoughts.
“Piltover... the city of progress... we boast so much about our intelligence and ethics, and yet so many do extremely little to enhance the lives of others... infatuated with augmentations for looks and deadly enhancements just as much, if not more, than Zaun... I’ve seen sump folk being more humble than those up top...” She took a bite of the dried meat, wishing it had the flavors of home. Bandle was a long ways away, and fighting her way to be in such a prestigious city, especially of her kind, was no simple task. She was stubborn, though, proud of her spark and intuition to make it this far, yet that did not mean she did not miss her place of birth.
“Am I doing the right thing...? I came here to learn. I was curious of the world outside of Bandle. Ever since I heard of Heimerdinger moving here... I had to know. His endeavors are extremely well know, along with his brilliance among both our kind and humans. Now....”
“Now, I want to do more. I think... I’m not sure what, but I honestly feel I can help. I’m not the best.. I have limited funds... but I’m extremely lucky to have a hexcrystal that responds as well as it does to me, especially in the format I’ve constructed it to...” She took a look her glider’s chassis, putting a hand over one of the structures tiny metallic details, having it rest on the crystal chamber that held delicate, yet powerful stone half inside.
“... It seems fruitless, doesn’t it? Heh... I might as well be a failure, honestly. All that I’ve made is this... with such a rare entity... but...” She sat up and shook her head. “No... Heimer would be mad at me if I said such things. What I’m making... is a different kind of help to the world... and it might have more use than even I know... for now... it is an enhancement to life.. right? It’s an enhancement to ME, which I can use it to help others... and that technology... could eventually be used for more, right? Except... what kind of ‘more’ scares me. It’s potential is terrifying in the wrong hands, honestly...”
She bit her lip, sitting up further with a resolved look upon her face.
“I think Heimer and I need be here to protect it from the wrong use. I wonder if that’s why he came here. Not only to enhance his life and proceed with his dreams of inventions and as a scientist... but to oversee what happens here in Piltover and Zaun... and possibly everywhere. War feels like it’s on the brink at every turn.. everyone is ready to attack one another for one belief over another... I...”
“... I hope I can be of use. I have to keep trying. I must keep trying.”
“I am not a failure. I refuse.”
