So I've been researching what a CBC is for days but I'm still having trouble grasping what exactly counts as one
How would you all define a canon-based-character/character-based-character? How much of it needs to be different from the source material to be considered its own character? How do you make a character that exists into your own OC? And how do I make one that isn't gonna get me accused of ripping off something else?
Don't tell me you have no idea that this is her way of expressing her affection.. Someone definitely needs to teach her

The Wings of Legend AU: Spyray (Clay-Spyro)
The Mudwing with patches of purple
This is Spyray, a Mudwing Dragonet who hatched with the rare patches of purple scales, signaling him as the next Purple Dragon who can learn the elements of his world with the growing pressure of him being the one to stop the previous Purple Dragon, Darkefor (Darkstalker-Malefor), who has control over the dragon realms he keeps in check with his allies.
A prophecy was forged by the Nightwings of the realms of the next Purple Dragon, Spyray, and four others; a Skywing, a Seawing, a Nightwing and a Sandwing who were to be deemed as Draconic Knights to aid Spyray and ensure his safety over everything. All to be raised and trained in a hidden temple of the Guardians of Peace, teach Spyray the four natural elements of Fire, Earth, Electricity and Ice. To train Spyray and the Draconic Knights so they may free the Dragon Realm from Darkefor and his allies that hold control over the realms.
I love Wings of Fire and I love The Legend of Spyro, so why not mash both things I love together, y'know? With Clay and Spyro as one combined character. I wanted to mash all the other characters with other characters as well, but there isn't many dragon characters so I can do that... so if anything I end up just making them TLoS versions!
Obviously theres Clay whos mashed up with Spyro to be, Spyray. I also got Tsunami, Sunny, Starflight and Glory as the Draconic Knights with their respective elements (Which I toyed around with, adding some more elements cause... why not?) and you also got Darkstalker whos mashed up with Malefor to be, Darkefor. Also yes, Peril is mashed up with Cynder, she's called Perder.
Yes, all the characters are gonna have unique names, I'm gonna try and take their Wings of Fire names and make them more The Legend of Spyro sounding, or at least vaguely?
To give a brief rundown on Spyray and the Draconic Knights elements. - Tsunami has Electricity, I'm avoiding giving her water as thats pretty obvious and Electricity fits her better with how she rushes in without thinking. - Glory has Wind, I don't have a in depth reason, it just... feels right for her? - Sunny I haven't deciding on but she's either gonna have Fire or Earth, possibly Earth. - Starflight... has no element and is stuck with raw mana. This is because I'm evil (/silly) and to reference how Starflight was pretty much robbed from getting his Three-Moon Powers. I'm sorry Starflight, but it's fitting. - And Spyray here, his first discovered element was Earth when he felt a dire need to protect his friends during a training session that went a bit too far with danger.
You can imagine Spyray as a combination of Spyro and Clay's personalities. - He can be curious and adventurous, loyal and earnest, while he can easily be confused, oblivious socially and slow to realizing things, but he's very intelligent once he pieces everything together, willing to learn through his experiences. - He tends to be accidently heroic, but genuinely enjoys helping others no matter what and doesn't ask for rewards. - Spyray tends to be more defensive in combat than offensive, he doesn't enjoy hurting others and prioritizes being the shield than a blade, much to the distaste of the Guardians of Peace who push the ideal that Spyray needs to be "the blade".
