The thing that movies fail to tell you, is that pebbles being thrown at your window get old very quickly. The glowing red letters of Louis alarm clock told him it was 1:36 in the morning. Meaning, he had been asleep for less than an hour. Between school, and work and the endless random tasks he did for his siblings or to lighten the load for his mother, it seemed the only thing he wasn't doing these days was sleeping.
Another rock rattles the window pane, and then another, and then 3 more in quick succession.
Louis groans, tears off the covers and opens the window. Just in time for a stone to nail him in the forehead.
“Fuck, man!” Its a sizable one, too. He grumbles at the thought of it leaving a mark on his face. “If you break this window, Mamaw is never letting you in this house again.” Louis hisses down at his assailant.
Two stories below, Amadeo is staring up at him with his hand clasped over his mouth. If Louis didn't know any better, he could be fooled that he might actually be apologetic.
Amadeo stage-whispers up at him, “Did I hit you?” Clearly trying to hold back his laughter.
“What do you want?”
“If I ask you to come down here are you gonna smack me?”
Louis makes a show of his annoyance, lolling his head to the side and pointing down at his friend accusatorialy, “I'll smack you either way, its only a question of when.”
“Nooo, I'm sorry.” Amadeo clasps his hands behind his back. The moon is so bright tonight, Louis can see it glint off his large dark eyes fixed in his classic performance of innocence, “But come down, I brought my telescope, we could see Saturn so well tonight.”
“Amadeo, it’s so late.” There was no such thing as a quiet weekend in the Du Lac household, the second the sun rose, rest would be impossible.
“So you’re saying you don’t wanna split these brownies and this wine with me, then?”
Crafty motherfucker. That gets Louis to stop thinking about his rapidly cooling bed and consider the offer, “I’m not staying up all night with you.”
“An hour, scouts honor.” Amadeo salutes with three fingers, which is certainly the extent of what he knows about Boy Scouts.
