oof, where to start!

I was a buck girl right from the moment I started watching the show so I think the main thing for me is the fact that tommy is so supportive and accepting of buck as he is where others never really have been. like yeah, tommy's a sarcastic bitch (and hot as hell, everything that I personally enjoy in a man and such a good match for buck's golden retriever sunshine energy) but he's also a sweetheart who'll go to a dead cowboy's funeral to lift a curse and like, can you imagine any of buck's exes indulging him like that? they'd have told him to stop being ridiculous. tommy though, tommy just rolls with it and I know part of that is the freak4freak vibes (he watched buck maim his friend and thought I want some of that which is totally and completely normal behaviour) but he also just likes buck exactly as he is, research spirals and boils and all

tommy is head over heels for him and that's what buck deserves honestly, someone who's just as besotted as he is. he deserves to be made breakfast and taken on dinner dates and yeah, he deserves someone who'll risk his entire career for him despite the fact they've broken up

there's honestly nothing about them together that I don't love, silly miscommunications and all, but the fact that they just like each other so god damn much makes me truly insane

When I joined the Tumbrl first time, I had no idea how to use this platform and here I am now, on my hundredth post. by your side is the post it note au that haunts me by being the only thing on my ao3 that's unfinished. I started it for the first bucktommy week, posted chapter one with promises to finish it once the week was over and I had more time and then just. didn't 😅

the premise is that tommy is still at the 118 but on an opposite shift to buck and they share a bunk (a little suspension of disbelief if you will with regards to logistics and lafd shift patterns 😅). tommy starts leaving notes, buck starts replying and they get a little conversation going and maybe kinda start developing feelings for each other despite not having met

or so they think, as meanwhile, because two person love triangle is my favourite trope and there aren't enough of them, buck gets dragged to a basketball game and meets this tall, charming hunk of a man with a cleft chin that he can't stop thinking about

sparks fly but what are the chances of buck meeting two people at the same? how ever is he going to choose?

it's my personal theory that tommy was never much into celebrating pride. he's comfortable with himself now (it took him a long time but he's finally there) but it's a quiet confidence that he's never really felt the need to shout about. he is who he is and that's that.

except then he and buck get back together and buck wants to go to his first pride. and of course tommy could never say no to those big baby blues so off they go to la pride and it's so overwhelming but buck is in his element and his excitement is kind of infectious. they eat and they dance and they talk to so many people (they find josh with some friends right at the front of the drag show) and it's all just so... joyful.

they find the stalls selling pride merch and tommy buys buck everything he wants (including a cropped i'm not gay but my boyfriend is shirt that makes tommy decidedly hot under the collar) and even lets buck convince him to get a pride flag pin. buck pins it to his shirt and then kisses him right there at the stand and well.

maybe it is fun to shout about it once in a while

Tommy takes over chopping the vegetables as Bobby starts dicing the chicken, the two of them working in sync and in silence. It's companionable and comfortable, going some way to soothing Tommy's frayed edges after a call that had tugged harshly on his emotions; losing anyone on a call was tough, and something he'd never get used to, but losing a child was a whole other kettle of fish that Tommy could hardly bear to think about. Almost as if Bobby knows what he's thinking - and it wouldn't be the first time - Bobby puts down his knife and looks up at him, brow dipped in gentle concern. "You doing okay, Tommy?" Tommy glances up, meeting Bobby's gaze for just a moment before turning his attention back to the leeks on his chopping board, worried that the concern in Bobby's gaze might be enough to break him if he looks for too long. "I'm fine." He can almost feel Bobby's disbelief from across the counter.

Buck abandons his Jeep vaguely near a parking space, rushing into the hangar as a not small amount of guilt churns in his stomach. He knew Tommy was sick, knew he should have pushed harder for him to stay home. And now… Tommy's captain is already on her way over to meet him, a grim set to her jaw that Buck really doesn't like the look of. "Buckley," she says, turning to lead him upstairs, "your boyfriend is an idiot." Buck winces even as he kind of agrees. "I tried to make him stay home-" "But he's stubborn as a mule, yeah, don't I know that," she says, the merest hint of a smile tugging at her lips.

He unbuckles himself with hands that feel like they belong to someone else, fingers trembling as he struggles with the release, time seeming to stretch infinitely as he tries to escape the suddenly claustrophobic confines of the cockpit. He finally manages to free himself from the harness and is thankfully saved from fighting with the door handle when Wild beats him to it, a concerned frown on her face as she yanks it open. Tommy half climbs, half falls out, Wild reaching out a steadying arm as alarm flashes across her face. "Tommy, what's-" He doesn't hear the rest as his legs buckle beneath him, the world going black as he hits the concrete.

The atmosphere back at the station is subdued to say the least, the knowledge of the child they couldn't save hanging heavy over them as they change out of their sooty turnouts. Tommy watches as Bobby throws himself into making dinner, chopping vegetables with perhaps a little more force than necessary, a grim set to his jaw that Tommy understands all too well. "Need a hand?" he asks, wandering over as the others head for the showers. Bobby shakes his head without looking up. "It's okay, Tommy, I've got it. Go clean up, take a break." Tommy hesitates a moment, not sure whether that's Bobby's way of saying he wants to be alone. Selfishly though, Tommy doesn't want to be. "Actually," he starts, and Bobby looks up, surprised, "I'd rather keep busy if that's alright." Bobby smiles, a small tentative thing that sends something churning in Tommy's chest. "Alright."
