I think after this chapter, people are gonna acknowledge that Yuri thinks of Yor more like a mom than a sister, subconsciously. He probably didn’t even notice that. When Yor said she was drunk she tended to “go at it with Loid” he reacted like I don’t want to think about what my sister is doing with her husband in private! Gross! Not the weird siscon stuff, and he is more jealous of Anya than Loid actually, he is hostile toward Loid, he wants to be a kid again to compete attention with Anya, he think of himself like a sibling of Anya than his uncle, the war parentifies Yor and she is actually treating Yuri like a son than a brother. It take both sides for a relation dysfunction to happen, Yor very clearly go trough empty nest syndrome when Yuri move out. Even though Yor only work in the city hall for a year, before she moved in with the Forgers, her coworkers had already noticed she used to be a lot more robotic and emotionless than she is now. We didn’t know what Yor use to act like before Yuri move out, it seems like because of Yor’s assassin job she rarely interacted with people and doesn’t got much hobbies, it is until Yor became a mother and wife she started to expand her life and started to thrive, to make more friends and it’s after Loid told her he think friends could be beneficial for their cover and got Yor to ponder about making friends before her fake marriage Yuri play big part of Yor’s life.

They are each other’s support when they endure war, they are bonded by their shared trauma, and attach to each other, even after the war.

What this series doing so will is the psychological effect people have by the war, and how they progress after it, we see in this chapter is how these two siblings moving forward from their unhealthy attachment of one another, people didn’t realize is that Yor have an unhealthy attachment with Yuri too, she got in to the assassin career because of him, and when she realized her brother no longer needed her she got in a slump that suddenly her life isn’t worth living anymore, she almost lost her will to fight on the cruise ship!!! It’s a very dangerous thing to overly rely on other people, it’s just Yor being able to move on faster because of the Forger role she is in, and the reason she is getting married is for Yuri not to worry about her, Yor is very self sacrificing, a lot of the things she did is for others, never putting herself in the first place except when she realized on that date when she got drunk and kick the shit out of Loid that she finally realized she want this family for herself, finally something she wants for self, and because the start point is from her core desires she is able to move forward from the miss placed role of Yuri’s caregiver to her siblings role a “companion”. Slowly and surely we started to see Yor put on more boundaries with Yuri like the time she asked Yuri to leave when Loid was injured after the mole hunt arc.

Now back to Yuri, though I am not a psychologist, I can sure say that a lot of Yuri's behaviors that make people think is siscon budded from his strong attachment to Yor, he is attached to Yor not in love with her romantically there’s a different, in the early chapter from the phone call we can tell that Yuri wants Yor to find someone. In book 5 confidential file, one of Yuri’s childhood memories is when he ate Yor’s homemade meal/poison he complimented her cooking and said that with her talent she would land a husband in no time then get slapped across the room, it obviously shows that he wishes the best for Yor in her future to find someone she loves and appreciates her. He also put Yor on a pedestal putting her photos in his locker and living room like an idol to worship and look up to her in an unhealthy manner, that’s the part I would admit is creepy. If the situation changes to an actual celebrity’s picture it would not be that weird, the thing is Yuri knows Yor personally and he seems to not be able to see Yor’s flaws, there is a psychological complex that Yuri feels and think he can’t be opposed to a person who dedicate their life to take care of him, in his (maybe younger or older) 5 years old mind Yor is everything, she can do anything, therefore perfect. Growing to adulthood is going through this process to shed the child’s point of view of our parents, as kids between 1 to 5 we build this idea that our caregiver can do anything(in a usual healthy household), and growing up is to understand that they can’t and they don’t know everything and to start to see them as human. We learn that by expanding our social lives from family to school to society, and Yuri is stuck on the school part which is where he learns to know more ways of interactions exist, but he purposely snuffs the idea out when he is in college, and probably all the schools he went to before that.

Now he is given a chance to put a boundary to Yor by his job and his own decision because he want to protect his sister, where he had a part of his life he can’t share anymore, and that job is forcing him out of his shell, only time will tell if he can be less attached to Yor and start seeing her as her own individual not just his sister. Thank you for reading to the end, I just think Yuri is a character who has a lot of potential and people judged him too fast.
