velma had . really had a wonderful time growing up with the gang. they helped her so infinitely? so intrinsically? to be the person she turned into?

she was smart, before meeting them. has always been smartsmartsmart, smart velma. studious velma. but the gang opened her up, a little bit? she always felt a little bit invisible. and people can’t fix you, can’t fix that. she still feels it, sometimes. but they helped her have those connections she desperately wanted? velma works better in group environments. with other people. she works well when she can bounce ideas, theories, swap stories and reasoning. exchanging ideas and seeing different perspectives is like, imperative to her work being the best it can be. 

that isn’t to say her work isn’t top notch if she’s alone. it’s just—it’s so much easier, goes so much faster, with other people. and mystery inc gave her that ! 

i hc that velma met shaggy + fred in middle school. she kind of took shaggy places with her, exploring, etc; was closer to shaggy than fred in the beginning. but then they met daphne in hs, and the group of them really clicked? like so hard? velma started talking about the mysteries that were going on that weren’t making sense, fred chiming in that they should all investigate it, and it. it went off from there. the whole group was hooked, because they worked together, bounced off of eachother. 

it was a really good dynamic. it was the best friendship dynamic velma could have asked for. 

there were insecurities, always. don’t get me wrong! they fought a lot, velma got overlooked a lot, sometimes they didn’t want to listen to shaggy, sometimes they underestimated daphne, sometimes they didn’t want to follow one of fred’s ideas. it happened! but they were close. they were so tight. the scooby gang shaped velma. 

velma, in my verses without the scooby gang is. she’s a lot more seclusive. cold. quiet. mystery inc rly played an important role on how velma sees the world. i love that!! i love that. 

it’s sad when things end but. she was so happy for the time she spent with them.

AS FOR HER FAMILY,

verse dependent, her parents are no longer around. she had a decent relationship with them, but they were very hard on her? grade wise? for a long time. really pushed her and, while velma loved studying, loved learning, it was. a lot, sometimes. she had a lot of pressure as the oldest. 

they didn’t really try to understand her all that much but they loved her. she is grateful for them. 

as for her sister, in my canon they’re not too close. velma checks in every once in a while, how she’s doing, if things are going alright, if there’s anything she needs from velma. velma loves her very, very deeply, but they were decently different people. very different personalities. so they keep in touch, will occasionally see one another, but! i hc madelyn left coolsville. goes to school elsewhere. she was bubbly and bright and had a lot of personality, lots of extraversion, and they were just !!! different.

Was that a yawn? No it certainly was not thank you so much for asking. Or, hey, maybe it was a little tiny one? There was a groan though as she stretched her arms above her head and cringed a little as a few vertebrae voiced their displeasure of her being hunched over for so long. But tools demanded care and she was not one to just let things sit and get completely unsterile. 

For a second she thought the footsteps behind her were more sounds from her back before she straightened up and the sound kept going and going. She looked over her shoulder. 

“Well, hey there, beefcake. Didn’t hear ya come in. What brings you to my neck of the woods?” 

❝    freshly cut grass is my new favorite smell.    ❞  the young girl is SPLAYED out on the grass as she peers up at owen , the large amount of sunlight hitting her face and causing her to squint her eyes.  fingers rake gently through the blades of grass beneath her while a smile graces her INNOCENT features.  ❝    i’ve never gotten the chance to smell anything like it before.    ❞  maisie rolls onto her side so she could reach into owen’s toolbox and retrieve his recently requested screwdriver.  she sits up and extends the tool towards him , not lying back down until it was completely out of her grasp.   ❝    what about you?  what’s your favorite smell?    ❞

jolene / pythia comes from a tribe that are a spiritual & monotheistic (religious) people & believe in a god they call “the-all-seeing-one” or vuzayali & will often liken their everyday lives.  they have a customary greeting “draṣṭā vuzayali a zinthu “ which translated from formal oleandic means simply “may the all-seeing-god spare you” —— which is reciprocated, in response, it becomes “i may be spared by him”.  where the tribe’s shaman is highly respected, those close to this figure is also of affluence; many are tried to apprenticeship, but few pass its harsh rite of passage. 

they believe that one’s soul may never rest until it has completed its purpose & thus it reincarnates until such purpose has been achieved.  the vessels one is given is another riddle which must be solved: to return is to err. 

her parents spearhead the tribe, but her mother is the true politician.  she does not forgive or forget if anyone dares salt the nalzeehi name.  she learned from her mother how to navigate the political landscape in the athenæum.  she learned from her father to be a warrior (he is better with the gun as he is no charismatic.  he’s too hardened, too terse), her father used to say to her mother “lady exochitl, i’d hate to be your enemy”. 

because her people pride themselves on being knowledgeable of history & literature & other applied studies, they see those who are not brought up oleander as poorly-versed in purporting themselves ; the constant raiding & warring is something that they’ve recognized is a happenstance.  sometimes these very undesirable things show up on their doorstep & they quickly dispatch of it in order to resume their preferred political method of settling disputes. 

her people are not xenophobic at all & accept trade & will welcome visitors, but, the oleander tribe absolutely does not tolerate the lawlessness & brusqueness of the commonwealth outside. 

all that is said, they are diplomatic.  so is she.

there is a polite, learned gracefulness that she carries herself with when venturing out into the commonwealth ; assist those who need the most constructive help & spare all adversaries no mercy & dare not suffer fools.  with all that said, she is inspired by it all & heavily fascinated with  she would like to make connections with the wastelanders & the stories that they tell.  she wants to know a person on a spiritual level. it should not be a surprise if she’s enthusiastic or inspired by simple interaction!
