First - are you definitely in danger of flunking or are you just panicking? Have you studied? Even just a little bit? Do you go to class and participate (even if minimally)? If so it’s probably not going to be that bad. You’ve got this!!

Second - If you don’t do well, do you definitely want to switch to something else or is retaking an option? If you really want to switch you gotta look at what interests you. What can you stand the thought of studying for the next 3 or 4 or even 10 years? 

Sitting down with a course prospectus will help a lot. Look through all the listings, put a sticky tab on the ones that interest you. Out of those look up readings on the subject matter, etc. Does it seem really interesting and something you’d like to do, or is it super boring and a complete drag?  

I’m not a big believer in the saying ‘’when you know, you KNOW’’. It’s human to be doubtful, but take some time to consider your options and usually a few paths open up for you to choose one. It took me 2 years to pluck up the courage to switch from PPE to classics so don’t make my mistake! It’s alright to just jump in blindly every so often!!

I’d always been interested in both PPE and Classical Studies and went with PPE because I felt like that’d give me more job opportunities. Half way through, after 2 years of still constantly looking at the classical studies prospectus, I realised my heart wasn’t in it and that Classics was what I wanted, jobs be damned! :P
