#challenge 08

In your own space, celebrate a personal win from the past year: it can be a list of fanworks you're especially proud of, a gift of your time to the community, a quality or skill you cultivated in yourself, something you generally feel went well. 

This will be pretty easy.

Fandomwise, 2021 was a wonderful year for me. I created this Tumblr account (after five or so years of unregistered browsing), began using my Reddit one (which was lying abandoned since 2019), dipped even further into DW and once again fell in love with HPL’s writings.

But my most important win by far is getting into fanfiction.

Leave a comment in today’s post at The Fandom Snowflake Challenge on DW saying you did it. Include a link to your post if you feel comfortable doing so.

I'm leaving this one fairly open, but the general idea is to look back on the year (I know, even 2021) and think, "Hey, I'm actually glad for/happy about/proud of/pleased with how that one thing/list of things went." But more or less grammatically, as suits your needs.

Some starter ideas might be: "a list of three or more fanworks I'm especially proud of!" (the definition of fanworks including: meta, fic, icons, podfic, knitting projects, vids, graphics, AO3 skins, finger paintings, and anything else that strikes your fancy), or "I participated in the community in these ways!" (e.g.: left comments, helped mod, beta read, picked up pinch hits, et cetera), or "I worked on this skill, and am pleased with how it went!" (like: drawing hands that finally look like hands, improving pacing of soggy middle acts, making sharper vid cuts, organising meta more clearly).

It could also be a quality that you like about yourself that you felt got to really shine this year, like compassion and friendship, or fortitude, or problem solving, or just letting go (more difficult than you'd think!). What can you look back on with satisfaction and think, "I was the right person, in the right place, at the right time, and that went well"?

Recs are such an important part of fandom. They're an awesome way to find new things to love and they're an equally awesome way to share what we already love with others. One of my favorite things about The Fandom Snowflake Challenge is how many great recs I end up finding throughout the challenge.

However you want to go about it, just get reccing :D For the purposes of this challenge, a fanwork is defined as any creative endeavor for a fandom. Fic, podfic, art, crafts, vids, meta... if you love it and someone else made it, share it ♥

It's time to shine a light on your own fannish projects, whatever forms those may take. Ideas count too, so don't be put off if you have nothing concrete to show.

Challenge #8 Talk about a current fannish project (fic, art, vid, crochet, funko pop village) (that you are creating or enjoying) Post your answer to today’s challenge in your own space and leave a comment in this post saying you did it. Include a link to your post if you feel comfortable doing so.

One thing fans like to do is talk about the things they enjoy and create, and for this challenge we want to explore that. This is the time to let your creative side shine bright, and I just don't mean via fic. Though if you're writing/posting a fic right now; tell us, we want to know about your 10000k epic about Hawkeye, Lucky and the people who love them. But by the same token, if you're writing AU drabbles about Janeway the barista, well tell us about them, too.

But for this challenge, anything goes. Do you throw pots shaped like BB-8? Have you created a Funko village full of random characters where Jon Snow has a place next to Groot? Do you knit Pokémon? Made Roy Kent out of paper mache? Have you created a model Enterprise out of pipe cleaners? Have you recorded yourself singing The Black Parade with a folk song slant? Do you have plans to create a webcomic or have a list of things you'd love to podfic? Painted a portrait in oils of Venom? We want to know it all.

If you're creating it or have created, tell us, let your love and talent shine. The product doesn't have to be finished or posted, heck, even an idea that you've been thinking of for years will count. It doesn't even matter if those ideas will never materialise, we just want to know what you'd love to create if you could.

We're waiting to bask in the incredible fannish projects that are out there, no matter what form those take.
