#chalices

Went to an alternate wizard school because it was the only one that had modern accommodations for my migraine disorder and instead of wands or staffs we were each handed a chalice in the grand hall and the grand wizard filled each one with water and mine took a while because if you weren’t pouring fast enough all the water that touched the bottom of my chalice would evaporate but eventually it was filled to the top but the water was just lukewarm so I put in an ice cube and it melted right away, no trace, but my chalice turned into a glass cup (no frills, no trim) and the greatest sages nodded at my Outback Steakhouse looking glass that bubbled angrily at the bottom (but the heat won’t rise, the heat won’t rise) and I looked around and realized everyone else’s chalice was opaque with golden gilding or pewter or stone and there was never any way for me to see inside, but they whispered among themselves or split out their contents to reveal colors and heat or ice and stench or so many other strange things, so I asked the tallest sage (tree man?) what the meaning of all this was and he told me that human souls are strange things, he had no explanation, but that he was so thirsty walking around roots-out of his home. I poured some water at his feet(not feet, root feet, no word for it, never seen it before). We were satisfied together.
