Like many other characters, the Stone Lady predates Macoatl in concept (that of a statue that suddenly comes to life), but in her previous incarnation, she was a fountain of Princess Peach with a long stone braid that used a jar as a boxing glove.

Chic-Chac-Mool 1 | The virtual helmet
The Chac-Mool is a type of sculpture recurring in different Mesoamerican cultures such as the Maya, Toltec and Mexica. It is always found in ritual contexts so it is undoubtedly related to the sacred and closely associated with the rain god Tlaloc. They have been found as a repository for offerings, hearts and even as a stone for human sacrifices. I have always been interested in this figure because of its shape and its role as an intermediary between the terrestrial and the sacred world. The artist Henry Moore was also very interested in these figures and probably was the most recurring influence on his work. ‘it was the art of ancient Mexico that spoke to me most. I admit frankly that early Mexican art formed my views of carving as much as anything I could do.’
The “Chic-Chac-Mool” collection reinterprets this figure, through the use of animated collage, alluding to contemporary culture through the word 'chic' and 'mool' that should be pronounced the same as the word 'mall'. In this sense, the work juxtaposes the ritual and sacred meanings of this figure with the aesthetics of fashion, modeling poses and the frenzy of the dominant consumer culture.
