the kids are alright | adam, ariana, athena, blanche, connor, nell, orion, & winston
TIMING: a few days before the full moon. LOCATION: connorâs beach house. PARTIES: @walker-journal, @letsbenditlikebennett, @athenaquinn, @harlowhaunted, @connorspiracy, @nelllraiser, @3starsquinn, @danetobelieve SUMMARY: just a truly wholesome and youthful time.
Connor didnât know what everyone liked, so he tried to get a little of everything; chips, dip, beers, spirits (no pun intended), and a few takeout menus scattered around in case they wanted to order. The house wasnât huge by any means, but one thing he prided himself on was having a bloody good entertainment system, complete with several consoles and a massive telly. Theyâd have some fun. Watch some shit movies, play some Mario Party, forget that the world outside was shit, at least for a few hours. As the first knock at the door came, he headed over to answer it. âHey, welcome. Come on in. Make yourself at home. Telly and consoles are obviously in here, but we have this bit of beach as well if we decide we want to take it outside.â
While Ariana wasnât sure of who all would be in attendance tonight, she knew she hadnât wanted to leave Athena back at the apartment. Especially with everything that had happened recently, she knew they could both use a fun evening. When she knocked on the door, she smiled brightly as Connor greeted them and introduced him to Athena. âI think Iâll skip testing my luck with the beach, Iâm more interested in seeing how I can build a new entertainment system for ya anyway,â she turned to Athena and said, âThis is my friend Athena. Athena, this is Connor. You may have seen some of his YouTube videos.â She held up a bag and added, âWe brought some extra snacks, too.âÂ
She wasnât entirely sure that she was up for a party, but she also knew that she didnât want to be all by herself with her thoughts. So when Ariana had offered to bring her along to the party, Athena had quickly agreed. âHi.â She waved to Connor from where she was standing behind Ariana. âI donât watch a lot of YouTube outside of some videos about baking, or science, or one of my sorority sisters has a vlog channel, so Iâm subscribed to that⊠but still! Nice to meet you.â She grinned, and it still didnât feel entirely comfortable, but she knew that she had to get back to the usual routine to some degree sooner or later. She nodded over at the bag Ariana was holding up, using that time to look around the house. Her fingers, bare except for one with a golden ring that Amanda had gotten her for her birthday, found her cross necklace and she twisted it around, a bit out of a nervous habit. âThanks for letting me come, it looks like you have a really nice place.â
âAlways love a good snack,â Connor teased. âThatâs why Adamâs coming.â Pity that boy was so painfully heterosexual. âHi, love,â he greeted as Ariana introduced Athena. âNice to meet you. Nobody else is here yet, but come on in, have a drink, let Ariana check out my furnitureâŠâ He gave a little chuckle, helping himself to a beer.Â
Nell and Blanche had arrived in tandem, sporting their matching âburn your braâ crop tops in a yin and yang color scheme with Nell in black, and one of her best friends in white. As she walked through the open front door, an amused grin cracked her lips as she saw Blanche and her hadnât been the only ones to have a similar idea. âWell Iâm glad we all got the memo,â she said with a nod towards Athena and Arianaâs complimentary jerseys, knowing full well there had been no such thing. Then she was raising a hand to wave a group greeting towards everyone, and presenting the plate sheâd brought. âI brought these- theyâre brownies obviously, but the kind that might make you astral project a couple planes over.â Probably stuffed with enough homegrown pot to get an elephant high, they were a staple when it came to party favors.
Orion had been to Connorâs on quite a few occasions now. Since the two had first met up at the old haunted house that Rio had grown up learning about, the two had hung fairly often while Rio helped film and edit videos every now and again. He was still clearly a beginner, but either Connor was desperate for the help or just enjoyed Rioâs company. He came hand in hand with Winston, overly excited for the night. Ever since his birthday, people seemed to walk on pins and needles around him and he didnât know how to convince him that he was completely fine without potentially coming across as a sociopath. âConnorâs place is nice! He has a really cool set up for editing videos. Maybe you two can geek out about computer stuff together?â Rio grinned as the two made towards the front door.
Connor took a look at everyoneâs outfits. âWell, if you brought bras to burn, I already mentioned weâve got the beach for a little campfire,â he teased. âAnd Nell, maybe we let people settle in for a bit before getting high on brownies, yeah?â He gave her a playful grin. âBut I like the way you think.â There was another ring from the doorbell, and he momentarily excused himself to go answer. It was Rio and his roommate. Holding hands. Cool. âHey, you made it,â he greeted, smiling over at Rio. âDid you know we were supposed to coordinate? Everyone else has come dressed in pairs,â he teased, then looked to Winston. âHi. Nice to meet ya. Iâm Connor. Come on in.â He led them inside to the rest of the group. Now that almost everyone had arrived, he made sure everyone had a drink and knew where the snacks were, and where the bathroom was. âJust waiting for Adam then. For movies weâve got pretty much anything thatâs on Netflix, Prime, Hulu, or anything I can illegally download.âÂ
Glancing around the room, Winston shot Nell and Blanche a knowing smile before keeping their hands tightly interlaced with Orionâs. Things seemed to have relatively blown over with Athena, the fact that she was here with Ariana was a separate matter. âThanks for the invite, if Iâd known we were supposed to coordinate Iâd have joined in but I guess weâre always the last to hear about these fun factsâŠâ Winston gave a gentle smile before continuing into the house. They were about to mention that they were pretty sure they could connect Connorâs place up to the database in their home, but they werenât sure that they wanted to potentially share any info that was not entirely secure. âAdamâs coming too? This really is going to be a party.â Winston just hoped he wasnât armed with assault rifles and grenades this time.
âHey guys,â Blanche gave a wave. She hadn't expected Athena to be here, but then again, she also hadn't expected Rio either, especially after⊠everything. But she wasn't one to judge when people needed to blow off steam. âI would highly recommend the brownies. Once, you know, weâve all settled in.â She nudged Nell playfully. âI have a 12 pack of beer too if anyone wants a drink.â She set it down on an end table, before curiously eyeing the TV. âAlright then, why don't we focus on picking a movie while we wait for Adam -â would he roll in with kegs like he did at Nicâs party? She fought back a snide internal comment, reminding herself that she promised to rewind for the evening, and honestly⊠she was so tired of being angry. Not just at Adam, but with everyone. âWhat genre are we feeling? Horror?â she asked, hopefully.
It seemed like she and Athena hadnât been the only ones who showed up matching. Ariana waved to Blanche and Nell appreciating their crop tops. She stood up to grab some drinks for her and Athena though she was pretty sure sheâd be skipping out on the brownies. Sheâd never tried them before and wasnât sure a big group of people was the place to start. âIâll take you up on one of those beers. Did you want one, Athena?â At the mention of horror movies, Ariana shrugged. âSounds a little close to real life, but Iâm down.âÂ
She figured that her brother was going to be here. Athena gave a small, half-wave to Rio, though she didnât look over at him for too long. They hadnât been together since everything and she still wasnât sure what she was supposed to do. The idea of the brownies wasnât especially appealing, even if part of her wondered if Nellâs addition to it was a bit more magical than most. âUh, sure.â She said, looking at Ariana. âIf thereâs cider Iâd prefer that but beer can do.â She waved at Nell and Blanche. âNice matching.â It didnât hurt to at least appear pleasant, and she could only do so much to calm down her nerves - getting into an argument wasnât going to help with any of that. âWhat horror films? I canât say Iâm super expert on that genre.â Ironically enough.
There was the sound of a large truck pulling up and a loud bawdy conversation on the street about someone being manscaped with a weedwacker, only for said someone to shout back an incoherent taunt about some physically impossible things Adamâs mother engaged in last night. More voices joined in the from the truck until it was unclear where mothers, weedwhackers, body hair, contortionist sex positions, chocolate fudge, and lighter fluid all fit into this. However all involved seemed to part even more cheerful than before and the car departed.Â
Sporting a letterman jacket and a red baseball cap with faint stains of a deeper scarlet, Adam burst in smelling faintly of lock-room soap and the lingering grass scent of the football field.Â
Still flush with post-practice endorphins, Adam vaulted over the back of the nearest free couch as if it were a track hurdle and crashed down into the open seat.Â
âSup my bodacious bastards?â
"Horror is good by me. Blair Witch or something? Could always go with Scream. Classic slasher." Connor grabbed a cider for himself. He had bought enough so that nobody needed to bring their own, but it was a nice gesture. It wasn't long before Adam turned up. You really couldn't miss him. "Life of the party, I see," Connor greeted. "The loud-mouthed jock of my dreams,â he teased, his grin flashing all the way up to his eyes. âWant a beer mate? We were just deciding on a movie."Â
Nell abandoned her pot filled brownies on the coffee table, grabbing a few drinks after waving a welcome to Winston and Orion, and first offering one to Blanche with a âFor youâ before taking another. Then she plopped herself down on the same couch before also handing one to Adam should he want it. âAnd here you go, âbodaciousâ;â she said with a slight snort. Nell couldnât pretend that she wasnât a bit worried to have the two of them in the same place after Winnâs death, but maybe alcohol was another key factor in glossing all of that over for the moment being. She popped open the top of her own bottle with a household spell, realizing sheâd forgotten a bottle opener before taking a swig of it. âIâm right here,â she joked at the mention of Blair Witch, even if she knew it was less about witches and more about general spookiness.
Swallowing a mouthful of beer, Winston watched Adam enter the room. This was not your classic set up, hunters, werewolves, exorcists, spellcasters and god knew what else. But they were their friends and Winston was doing their best to be more normal in their endeavours and their life. âNot everything is about you Nell sweetie,â Winston reached down and plucked a brownie from the plate, tentatively nibbling on it and smiling. Thank God they werenât driving tonight. âIâve heard that Midsommar is meant to be really good, Heritage too. Not sure if any of those appeal to you. Theyâre meant to be more nordic or something? I donât know. I read something about them a while back.â
The place was full of familiar faces, and maybe for the first time Orion found himself at what could basically be considered a party surrounded completely by people that he considered friends. Or at least, friends plus one very odd addition in the first of his twin sister. She stuck close with Ariana. The pair still baffled Rio, seeing them together and matching was even more jarring. Coupled with Blanche and Nell wearing the same thing maybe Rio and the others really had missed some sort of memo. Athenaâs small wave was maybe a step, but not much of one. Rio returned the wave, both of them turning their backs to each other as Rio made his way to the kitchen, pondering whether or not he was going to drink. He decided to go for it after a long momentâs hesitation and picked a cider, âItâs someoneâs job to make sure I donât get drunk. I have an embarrassingly small tolerance.â He said aloud to no one in particular, only sort of joking and then found his way to the couch where Adam had just leapt over, âA cult movie may be hitting a bit close to home, donât you think?â Rio laughed, but shrugged the concern away, âIt looks pretty though. Iâm down for anything.â
Connor was pretty indifferent to any drama that might have existed between anyone in the group, so he didnât pay any mind to Blancheâs reaction to Adam. "Yes, Nell, you're our White Crest witch, very different," Connor teased. Since everyone was here, it wouldn't do any harm to grab a brownie. He'd just have to pace himself. "Oh shit, if we're talking 'high brow' horror," he made little air quotes around the words, "Hereditary and Midsommar would be sick. Get Out, too. I just figured we'd probably want something we can get pissed and stoned to and not pay that much attention," he snickered. "Oh, there's also Happy Death Day and The Babysitter if we want newer Netflix shit." He shrugged, sipping his drink. âIâm not fussed though. Whatever anyone else wants to watch.âÂ
It was good to see Adam in seemingly better spirits than the last time she saw him. Ariana still felt a twinge of guilt that her trust in others had nearly led to his death, but he was here now and they were all going to have a good time. âHey, Adam,â she greeted with a wave as he swung over the couch. She looked back to Athena with a small smile and said, âCider it is.â She made her way to the kitchen and chimed in, âIâm not sure Winston, Iâm pretty sure Nell took a DNA test and sheâs 100% that witch.â She grabbed a beer for herself and a cider for Athena. It dawned on her that she hadnât seen any of the movies mentioned but she laughed a bit over the cult part. âIâve seen like none of those, so Iâm good with whatever.â She slid back into her seat by Athena and handed her a cider. âHere you go,â she said brightly. She knew Athena was still down over everything that happened and she wanted this to be a nice night for both of them. Hell, she was pretty sure everyone in this room needed a break from White Crest being White Crest and she wanted that for all of them.Â
She gave a small wave to Adam as he arrived. At least he seemed to be in relatively good spirits, which was something. âHowâs it going Adam?â She raised an eyebrow. âThis feels a little different than our usual sort of party, doesnât it?â Athena nodded at Arianaâs comment, watching as she went over to grab the drinks. âOne of my sisters is a sociology and film double major and wrote a paper about Get Out - she had us all watch it so I actually have seen that, but I canât say Iâm too familiar with the others.â She did know that if anything was too full of jump scares she might react poorly, but that was what fiddling with the hem of her shirt was for, wasnât it? She accepted the cider from Ariana and took a sip. âWhatever everyone else wants to go with.â She couldnât help but sigh when she noticed that her brother had the same drink as her, though only a small smile covered her lips.
Connor had a big grin on his face as they drank and chatted. It had been a while since he'd had a proper group of friends like this. He had friends, of course, but high school and college he'd still been coming into his own as a medium and starting up his YouTube channel. People thought he was kind of weird. In White Crest, he wasn't weird at all. He was probably one of the most normal. "Okay, we're gonna have to take votes on the movie," he snickered, smoking his vape. "Probably something on the less serious side of things, yeah? We've got enough shit going on. Happy Death Day or The Babysitter are both on Netflix." He got a feeling there was a little more going on with the âseriousâ side of things than he knew about, but he didnât want to stick his nose into other peopleâs business. This night was about relaxing, not rehashing the bad shit.
Adam had once been taught that heâd been born to stand apart from humanity, amongst but not a part of it. The preservation of mankindâs destiny required forsaking anything thatâd inhibit neutrality or cause a Hunter to become entangled in disputes between human beings. Thus Adam had grown up play-acting, his life during the day just a pleasant cover identity for who he really was.Â
Now it was all he was.Â
This reversal tugged at Adam as he watched his friends banter and meander on the way to actually choosing a movie. All his life Adam had been told to focus, remain vigilant against the inevitable return of the old gods. Was that why he lost his powers? Focusing too much on enjoying humanityâs company instead of protecting it?Â
These and other thoughts whirled behind Adamâs grin as he accepted the beer. âGlad my beach body lives rent free in your head Con,â Adam replied with a wink to Connor at the mention of being the jock of his dreams.Â
âDunno about Happy Death Day, Iâve had about enough dead chick drama for a while.â
Adam âthoughtâ for a moment, which is to say he took a few glugs of beer like a man dying of thirst in the desert and went with the first idea that popped up in his brain when the alcohol hit his system.Â
âLetâs do truth or dare while we decide? Bet that should be a trip with well...usâ
Blanche had a hold on the remote, somewhat zoning out while people debated the choice in movie. She was doing that more, lately, but she had always been easily distracted. That was more because ghosts though. Only at the mention of Truth or Dare did Blanche snap out of it. Leaning against the armrest, she took a sip of her beer, glancing over at Adam. Considering it a moment, she put the remote down. âI'm down for a game of Truth or Dare,â she said, glancing around. Was this what all parties were like? She looked over at Nell, almost a little unsure for a second. âSounds like fun?â
In all honesty, Nell much preferred the concept of Truth or Dare in comparison to a movie. At this rate with all the strangeness that made its home in White Crest, horror flicks were nearly laughable at times. Besides- Truth or Dare was probably something that demanded more attention, which was a welcome distraction from current stressors. And that was the whole point of this get together, wasnât it? Giving Blanche a reassuring nod, Nell sat straighter on the couch as if readying herself for the game. âLetâs do it.â She took another draw of her drink before looking around the circle with a new and challenging glint in her eyes. âWho wants to go first?â
âTruth or Dare? Thatâs on Netflix as well,â Connor said, flicking through the horror suggestions until he found it. Only a few clicks in did he realise that wasnât what Adam had been referring to. âOh, did you mean the actual game?â He laughed, just switching to a music playlist in the background and folding his feet under him while he made himself comfy on the sofa. âWait a minute, Iâm down and everything, but someoneâs gonna have to explain what rules weâre playing by. Everyone does âem different.âÂ
Truth or dare sounded like the worst idea possible. Orion did not consider himself to be a very daring person by nature. But at the rate life had been going the last month, he wasnât exactly keen on the idea of answering any truths either. Not that he was far bound to answer truthfully anyways... unless that was a thing in White Crest. Regardless, the result terrified him. But the Rio here tonight wanted to be the okay version of Rio. The one not bogged down by the death of his parents. So he took a long drink from the cider and wiped at his mouth, making the gesture overly dramatic to try to hide the soured look he gave from the taste of alcohol. âMe. Iâll go first. Dare me.â This was absolutely a bad idea, but Rio had gotten pretty good at those. âOh. Rules?â Rio heard what Connor questioned, but had never played the game before. âCool. Well explain the rules and then dare me.â
This was just about the last game that Athena wanted to play. Even if she chose truth, which she wasnât planning to, she could still omit certain aspects of it. It came along with her training and she didnât trust most people here enough to reveal any deep secrets. So dares it would be - and it seemed like her brother was following the same path. âI mean, different versions are different but you get asked truth or dare - if itâs truth, someone can ask you any question about anything,â she raised an eyebrow at him, âand if itâs dare then you have to do whatever they ask. Thereâs sometimes consequences for not completing either.â She took a sip of her drink. âBut dare? Since youâre new at this, we can start easy. I dare you to drink the rest of your cider in under a minute.â She crossed her legs. âWhoeverâs up next, I also choose dare.â
Orion was surprised that Athena had been the first one to dare him. She had even been pretty lenient, daring him to just finish his drink. Easier said than done to a complete lightweight who had no experience drinking, but as far as the things he could have been dared to do this felt like he was getting off easily. âDone.â He had seen the movies before, so Rio kneeled down on one knee and tipped the bottle against his mouth, chugging as fast as he could. The drink instantly turned bitter against his tongue and he thought it would never end. But if he could survive his birthday he could finish a cider. He finally finished the thing off with an explosive coughing followed by him falling back on his butt. âIâm totally not going to puke.â He wasnât sure if he was telling everyone that or trying to convince himself not to.
Adam stood up from the couch and strode to the far side of the room, gingerly stepping over and around people so as to not crunch knees or beers. He took an empty solo cup and placed it on a piece of furniture. The footballer knelt next to the door and produced a small grip-exercise ball. He offered the little squishy ball to Athena with a grin..Â
âI dare you to close your eyes and try to throw this call in the cup. Take a shot each time you miss.âÂ
Adam performed another one-handed vault over the back of the into his seat, but the alcohol and post-practice endorphins in his system caused the Hunter to land far more ignominiously in a heap of sinewy limbs and cushions.
âTruthâ
âEasy-peasy.â Athena smirked, before standing up. She handed her cider to Ariana and grabbed the ball from Adam. âIâve got this no problem.â She took the ball and closed her eyes, concentrating on the location of the solo cup before rolling her shoulders and giving a small toss, eyes flickering open as she heard it hit the inside. She turned around, walking by Adam before bending over to whisper in his ear. âI do have excellent reflexes, just to remind you.â She found her space back by Ariana again. âFeeling rather successful right now, I think.â
âWow, nice!â Connor enthused as Athena hit the shot. âIâve got a truth,â he blurted out, feeling the effects of his drink and Nellâs magic brownies, a pleasant tingling sensation overtaking his body. âHave you never done anything even the slightest bit gay? Because honestly, only the most heterosexual guy ever could have not understood those sword crossing comments,â he laughed at the memory. Ah, simpler times, when he didnât know that half these people were murderers and there werenât freshly resurrected evil spirits out to get them. Then again, Connor was starting to get the impression that stuff was common in White Crest. Best not get too comfortable. âAnd you can truth or dare me all you want. Iâm not bothered, mate.âÂ
Ariana watched somewhat in awe as Athena performed her dare. It was definitely impressive to watch and she couldnât help the small grin on her face as Athena came back over to take her seat by her. âThat was awesome,â she said as she gave Athena a small pat on the back. There was another dare to be dished out so she quickly chimed in, âConnor, I dare you to do a dance challenge as your next YouTube video. Iâm thinking the In My Feelings Challenge.â She realized that meant it was her turn, so she added, âI pick dare for myself.âÂ
âA Dance Challenge?â Connor snorted, waving his hand, affectionately dismissive. âThatâs not my style, babe. Oh, I could definitely do it on TikTok though. You didnât say which platform it had to be on.â He whipped out his phone, looking up a couple. âI can probably film it right now, since Iâm tipsy, but youâll have to hold my phone.â He looked up a few examples then got up, only a little wobbly on his feet. âI have no fucking idea how to do this shit,â he laughed, looking over to Ariana and handing her his phone. Heâd watched a few versions of the thing he was trying to recreate. âReady?â Â
Adam hadnât been raised with particularly strong feelings on different sexualities other than that they existed. Really, Dad had been far more concerned that his sons knew the proper masculine values of honor, wilderness survival, coordinated squad tactics, and the domestic arts of building explosives from homemade materials rather than getting hung up on what dangly bits were going where.Â
âUh,â Adam thought about Connerâs question. âWas never really wired that way, but after I pledged I was curious bout what I was missing,â the footballer acknowledged with a shameless ease. âTalked to some frat brothers who were all about that life, and they uhâŠshowed me aroundâŠin the showers.âÂ
âWas kinna funnish-awkward,â he admitted with a shrug, âbut not really my speedâŠ. not sure that lgeit counts as gay though. It was just educational, yâknow?â
Nell saw her opportunity as it became Arianaâs turn for a dare, and leaned forward on the couch to set down her now empty bottle on the table, feeling a nice, warm buzz as the alcohol began to do its work. She hummed for a moment, as if taking her time to come up with a suitable enough dare for the girl. Ariana knew how to go big or go homeâ which admittedly was something the two of them had in common. âI dare you to....â Then the idea came to her. What was the most horrendous thing that White Crest had to offer? âMatch with a mime on Tinder. Match with the mime- and have at least five back and forths of texts.â Then Nell sat back, satisfied with her work to say, âAnd Iâll take a dare.â
âEducational and gay,â Connor nodded. âSorry I missed it.â He made sure Ariana was ready to record and then going into the routine. He pretty much nailed it. Although he was a little drunk, it was evident that the experience and intent behind the moves was there. âDid I forget to mention I did ballet and theatre for years?â He winked into the camera before grabbing it for Ari so he could edit and laugh. âAw, that was sick. Sorry, what was that?â His expression changed when he heard what Nellâs dare was. âThere are mimes on tinder?âÂ
Ariana whooped and cheered into the camera as Connor finished showing off his moves. She tilted her head surprised by his revelation. âThat explains the moves,â she said with a laugh, âGotta respect a guy who knows ballet, right?â As Nell took the chance to dare her, she looked to her with a raised brow that was practically challenging her to do her worst. She burst out laughing at the thought of mimes on Tinder. âOh god,â she said through laughs, âBlanche get over here and help me mime-ify my Tinder.â It was only a few back and forth messages. Hopefully, the profile update wouldnât ruin future matches, but she found she was losing interest in it anyhow, especially with her current roommate. âIâm thinking more dramatic and artsy to go with the mime vibe?âÂ
âNell!â Blanche said, âThat's cruel!â But she was laughing. She pushed herself to her feet, though, and carefully made her way to grab Arianaâs phone. âArtsy, got it.â A Connoisseur of Mime. Don't talk to me if you don't mime. And if you do mime⊠you know what to do ;-----). Blanche read over what she wrote, before she grinned, hanging the phone back to Ariana. âHappy swiping!â Which meant⊠Blanche turned to Nell, a mischievous smile on her face. âIn order to get revenge for poor Ariana⊠I dare you to call the Stripe Club to inquire about employment opportunities and if you get an interview, you gotta go.â Blanche said proudly.Â
She paused, considering her own options. âTruth. For me, I mean.â
âThere are definitely mimes on Tinder,â Nell confirmed with a grin, having seen some of them for herself during perusals of the app. âMaybe Ari will find her true love with a mime, who knows?â It was disturbing to say the least, though sometimes sheâd match with a mime just to troll them for a while. After allâ every mime was guilty by association. She should have expected the mimery to be turned back on her, but still pulled a revolted face at the thought of going anywhere near a mime establishment. âIf I die- itâs your fault,â she pointed an accusing finger towards Blanche all while googling the number for the Stripe Club. She wasnât sure who exactly it was that asked Blanche her truth while Nell began her job search at a mime strip club and Ariana commenced her swiping. Someone was leaning over to watch the dance video Connor had made, and another person was getting up to grab another drink from the fridge. The air was warm and bright as the night stretched onwards, and it seemed that against all odds the youth of White Crest had finally managed to find a single evening where they were allowed to exist only as themselves, and not the people the world forced them to be.Â

drunken sailors | connor & nell
TIMING: before nellâs drowning via constance. PARTIES: @nelllraiser and @connorspiracy. SUMMARY: a pair of drinks for a pair of friends leads to an evening of fun. CONTENT: nsfw talk and implications.
Connor wasnât entirely sure what to expect. Surely Nell had just been messing with him about the sex toys. It wasnât that he was opposed. Heâd been propositioned in worse ways before, but he did his best to play it cool. As if he hadnât showered and manscaped and worn one of his nicer-than-usual outfits. Not fancy or anything, just something that wasnât an old hoodie. He used a subtle amount of cologne that would soon be covered by the strawberry scent of his vape as he waited outside for Nell to arrive. When he saw her approach, he flashed her a little smile. âSo, were you going to mention the fact it looks like a dry cleaners outside or just come here expecting to laugh at me for standing around looking lost?âÂ
Nell wasnât the sort of girl who needed to be taken out or anything before having a good time between the sheets. In fact, she was generally quite the opposite. Why not just skip to the good part? Wellâ she supposed it wasnât always good. But still- might as well know sooner rather than later, right? And Connor seemed nice enough. Nell was always up for fun when it came to bedroom activities, having little discretion concerning what other party was involved. Approaching the man in question, she gave him a curious once over, a prickle of uncertainty finding her as she realized heâd at least gone through some effort for the evening. It wasnât that she hadnât. After all, sheâd donned an outfit that showed off the better parts of her assets, figuring that it would be as good an incentive for Connor as any. Something seemed...different between them. Almost as if theyâd prepared for two different types of evening, though she wasnât sure if she was entirely correct. Either way, she returned Connorâs grin, looking up at the dry cleaners in question. âWhat? No, I just thought weâd stop here first, right? Get our errands done and all that. Honestly, I canât believe youâd think such a thing of me.â Even if it did sound exactly like something she would do. Nevertheless, she didnât hesitate as the door opened, entering the bar as a heady rush of air whooshed out.
Connor shook his head with a playful little grin. Honestly, when heâd met Nell, he just wanted to see some demons, but he was starting to genuinely enjoy her company and humor. His life was so often filled with serious things; loss and tragedy and darkness, longing and despair. Nell was a little bit of levity in the sea of what-the-fuck. âRight, yeah, thought youâd make sure weâve got clean clothes for tomorrow morning and all that,â he teased. âGive it a rest. I am a supernatural investigator you know. I asked around about the place.â He reached for the door, opening it for her. âAfter you.â Upon opening the door they were greeted with the sound of the jukebox playing, the soft knocking of pool balls against each other, and the casual chattering of the patrons. âDo they serve supernatural drinks here? Youâve been before, yeah? Iâm excited for your recommendations.âÂ
A half-smirk was quick to form on Nellâs lips as Connor mentioned a morning after. Okay, maybe they were still on similar pages. That was good. âSo that means youâre still on for trying out those sex toys?â she teased, not yet saying outright that sheâd be taking part as well as a means of dangling the bait a bit. A playful eyeroll was quick to follow his statement about his job, though she knew he did it well based on his YouTube channel. âSorry, should I have brought you a deerstalker hat? Are you going to demand I call you Sherlock or something now? I think Nancy Drew might fit better.â Looking around at the patrons, she felt comfortable knowing that they all were a part of a similar world. The supernatural one. Even if she was still human, sheâd always felt that supernaturals were more welcoming of witches than non-powered humans were, and such a thing had been proven in her life thus far. âOf course they serve supernatural drinks. What do you usually like?â she asked with a grin. âThen I can go from there.â
âTo be honest,â Connor answered, an almost embarrassed chuckle, âI wasnât sure if you were serious or just winding me up, so I didnât want to assume.â He gave her a small smile. âBut yeah, Iâm game if you are.â He shook his head with an âoh, fuck offâ kind of grin at her Sherlock-Nancy Drew comment. âI prefer Ryan Bergara.â If she got that reference, he might just have to snog her there and then. âWell, nothing with blood in it. Nothing thatâs going to make me too pissed to stand up straight, sexy as it would be for you to carry me home,â he teased. âMost places I go are so in denial about the supernatural, they donât even have places like this, so the choice is yours, darling.â
Nellâs amusement only grew as she watched the young man do his best to reply, eyebrow raised as she waited. âOh, so youâre wanting me to try them out as well?â she teased, unable to pass up the opportunity to do so. Obviously sheâd been propositioning him, but it was a little too fun to joke around. âIs that a solo sort of situation or were you hoping for something else?â A small laugh fell from her before she answered, âYou wanna be the one thatâs basically notorious for being scared half the time?â She hadnât watched the Buzzfeed Unsolved videos religiously, but every now and then they were amusing enough. A playful tsk of her tongue, and then she was leaning forwards over the bar, trying to catch the attention of the bartender. âAlright, fine...no blood,â she affirmed before placing their order. âSo where all have you been?â
âTo be honest, I figured you already had.â Connor grinned at her. âAn experienced and adventurous young woman like yourself.â There was something very attractive about how forward she could be without being cringy. Most people couldnât pull that off, but she had a natural confidence and charm that he found appealing. âNot the scared part. I meant more the curiosity and ability to think outside the box. Not that much scares me, love.â It was true he had a higher threshold for getting the spooks than most people, but Nell had seen first hand that scaring him wasnât impossible. Just throw some hellhounds at him.Â
âWhere have I been?â he repeated. Once they had called the bartender and Nell ordered their drinks, Connor also ordered some pretzels from the bar so he had something to munch on while they chatted. "Loads of the most haunted places in the UK. Pluckley Village, Blickling Hall, the Ancient Ram Inn, Chillingham Castle." He opened his pretzels, offering one to Nell. "Then I did Europe. ZvĂkov Castle, ChĂąteau de Brissac, Wolfsegg Castle. Obviously when I came to America I had to do The Stanley Hotel and the Winchester House, The Queen Mary. Loads of places. But not all haunted places are famous, too. Sometimes it's just some desperate person trying to get someone to believe them."Â Â
A small snort found its way through Nell, and she didnât bother to hide the amusement on her face. âYou caught me. But thatâs probably the nicest way someoneâs ever said it,â she chuckled. The witch knew she had a healthy sex life, and sheâd never thought that a bad thing. Of course, her fellow high schoolers back in the day often had different ideas- especially when you were already essentially a social pariah. âAre you sure about that?â she instantly teased, most likely taking his bait. âI seem to remember you getting a little...concerned about some very cute hellhounds.â Soon enough their drinks had arrived, and Nell was raising herâs to Connorâs in a miniature toast before taking a sip. âDid you have a favorite?â she asked, interested to hear theyâd been to some of the same countries. But she knew all too well what it was like to have someone hanging onto you as if you were their last hope, and nodded along with his words. Sheâd found enough of those in her travels, as well. âI ended up going to some really remote places because of people like that. Some of those places were my favorites, though.â
"Alright, that's different. You sprung 'em on me, literally," Connor teased, laughing. He took another pretzel as she asked about his favourite place he'd visited. "There's this place called 'The Cage'," he snickered at the tasteless name. "Lovely, eh? It's a house in Essex that used to be a medieval jail for people accused of witchcraft. Bloody ugly as well. Painted bright yellow on the outside, looks like it's never been redecorated, chains hanging off some of the walls. But a hotspot. Really interesting activity." He leaned a bit closer to her with a smile. "You're obviously not afraid to get stuck in with the supernatural. What got you into it? You donât just spring from the womb summoning hellhounds and corpse-uncles."Â
âI warned you,â Nell insisted with a half-smirk and chuckle, having a bit too much fun prodding at Connor. This time she grabbed one of the pretzels as well, glad to be snacking on something while she listened. At the mention of taking witches prisoner, Nell hummed in discontent, her lips pressing together. âHalf the time- I feel like they werenât even real witches. Otherwise they probably would have escaped or something. Either way- what a bunch of dickwads.â Witches werenât as prosecuted as supernaturals like shifters and fae, but theyâd also been some of the most famously hunted. âIâm sure thereâs a bunch of pissed off spirits there, though.â It would only make sense. His question about the supernatural caught her slightly off-guard, and she wasnât entirely sure of an answer until it was coming out of her. âWell- I mean I was obviously raised as a witch by my family in my coven and everything. Weâre all witches. Iâve known about the supernatural for as long as I can remember. Or did you mean past that?â
âWell, yeah, people accused of being witches, I should say.â Had Nell ever technically mentioned she was a witch? Connor tried to remember. He didnât think so, but heâd sort of sussed it out from the summonings and the way she was acting now that he talked about them being locked up. âHalf the time it was just people being bloody paranoid about herbal medicine or accusing someone for the sake of it.â And now she confirmed his suspicions about her being a witch. He nodded, understanding. âWhatever you fancy telling me, love,â he said casually, sipping his pint. âYou seemed more interested in doing something else than talking, which Iâm fine with,â he gave her a small smile. âJust thought Iâd try and be something of a gentleman and have a drink with you before asking you to peg me.âÂ
Now that Nell thought about it, she supposed she hadnât outrightly said she was a witch. But hopefully her nodding along to Connorâs words of witches and warlocks in her greenhouse had been enough of a confirmation for him. âLiterally- just paranoid normie humans being all worried about someone who has a little more power than them.â Well- a lot more power if she was being fair. Still- the stigma around witches was alive and well in the non-supernatural community. Growing up as something of a loner and outcast because of the strange happenings around her had been proof enough of that. Soon enough, the levity of the evening had returned, and Nell was freely laughing at Connorâs phrasing. âI already told you- Iâm not a girl that needs to be wined and dined,â she replied with a grin. âAs for the pegging- weâll see what sort of mood Iâm in when we get out of here. Which leads me to the next question of âdo you wanna get out of hereâ?â
âWined and dined?â Connor repeated, snickering. He pulled out a packet of cigarettes from his jacket pocket along with a lighter. âWhat about beer, pretzels and a ciggie?â He took another sip of his drink. Whatever Nell had got him was strong. He felt a pleasant tingling sensation in his fingertips, and a little more confident than a few minutes earlier. âWell, love, since smoking in bars and pubs is prohibited in Maine, reckon we should head back to yours. But I did enjoy the drink.â He hoped he wasnât being too presumptuous, but given the direction their conversation had already taken, he wasnât too worried. âWeâll see where the night - and whatever toys youâve got - takes us, yeah?âÂ
A light and playful eyeroll was Nellâs reaction to Connorâs words, though theyâd also gotten another laugh from her. âNo- a takis and cake kinda girl.â But his confirmation was all Nell needed to finish the last dregs of her drink before standing from the bar, and shooting him a knowing look. After all, she hadnât been anything close to subtle. That was generally how she preferred it, though. No dancing around the subject or anything half as tedious. If she knew what she wanted, and they knew what they wanted- what was the point? âIâm glad you enjoyed it.â Now she was headed for the door, and looking over her shoulder at Connor as she went. âI think I could handle that. I just hope you can,â she said as her last tease, ready to see where the night would lead.

hey there demons itâs me, ya boi | connor & nell
TIMING: present. LOCATION: nellâs greenhouse. PARTIES: @connorspiracy and @nelllraiser. SUMMARY: connor meets with nell for some demon talk, but gets a little more than was expected.
Ever since the coven had excommunicated Nell and her sisters, she saw no particular reason to be as secretive about her dealings with demons as she once had been. Of course, she wasnât going to shout it from the mountaintops, but if someone was already in on the supernatural and wasnât a threat, the witch saw no need to hide her knowledge. Who knew, maybe if more people knew about her familiarity with demons, less of them would mess with her and her family. As for Connor, she didnât see any harm in discussing demons with an exorcist. Besides, itâd be interesting to see if he had any things to share of his own. Sheâd met the young man at the perimeter of the property, knowing that the reanimated corpse that Bea brought to life wouldnât be happy if an unknown person entered the premises without the escort of a Vural. âHey!â she waved an arm in greeting, waiting to lead Connor towards her greenhouse. âAre you ready to see the lair of demons?â Her tone was joking, obviously having nothing of the sort. Well...she supposed Gregâs doghouse might be considered a lair, but there was only one demon in there. Not demons, plural.
Connor followed the directions to Nellâs home, examining it from the outside. It was nice. Spacious, modern but with a woodsy kind of feel, well-maintained. He parked his car at the front, following her inside. âLair of demons. Great band name,â he teased with a crooked smirk, following her to the greenhouse. âYou know I feel like, as an exorcist, Iâm supposed to be super against this, but I have loads to learn about demonology stillâŠâ Connor was no stranger to doing things he wasnât exactly supposed to. The whole concept of a YouTube exorcist was enough to put the community on-edge. Might as well go and talk to the girl who kept demons in her back garden. âSo is it like a butterfly room, but a greenhouse full of demons?â he asked, only half-joking.
âIâve got dibs on it,â Nell instantly teased back with her own smirk-like grin. âIâm glad you found the place, though.â Sometimes it was hard for people to navigate the Outskirts, especially if they werenât White Crest natives. âI mean, you can make your own rules, canât you?â There was an air of levity to the words, as if she may or may not be serious on the matter. But in the end, who was to say what the rules were for magic? Ghost or otherwise? Her newly estranged coven had tried their hand at that, and failed spectacularly in her eyes. âAnd itâs always good to have the knowledge, isnât it? But you said youâve met a couple demons or so?â she asked as she swung open the door of the greenhouse, it opening to her specific touch on the door handle. As they entered, the plants were as ordinary as any other greenhouse, flowering and flourishing in abundance. It was only as you went deeper that more supernatural things began to pop up. âOh yeah, this is where I keep all the flying ones,â she joked easily, wondering how much he might believe such a claim.
âYou can keep it,â he snickered. Connor had his brand name anyway. The dumb name heâd come up with for his youtube account when he was a teenager. It was a little silly, but he liked it. He could feel the magic in the air around them. There was something intangible about the place, something in addition to the actual, physical demons. He turned his head as a lanky old man with grey skin and dead eyes walked past, not even looking at him. He stared curiously as the man walked away, doing slow laps around the house. âFlying monkeys, like the Wizard of Oz?â Now that would be something. âI mean, I specialise in ghosts. Iâve met a demon or two though.â Like, the total beginner versions, but there was no need to advertise that fact. âWhat are you, some kind of demonologist?âÂ
âGood, because I would have kicked your butt for it,â Nell continued to joke, no actual threat in her tone and voice. As Beaâs reanimated corpse, Corpsey, walked byâ Nell tried to pay him no mind. Maybe if she didnât say anything about him, Connor wouldnât either. After all, she hadnât expressly told him that she was a witch. Of course, all the demon talk wasnât exactly something that spoke of a regular human, and her familiar in the form of an Ovinikk named Taki letting himself into the greenhouse wasnât exactly...normal cat behaviour. But she was happy to ignore that all for the moment. Still, she couldnât resist poking some fun within the confines of his Wizard of Oz analogy. âExactly like the Wizard of Oz. Iâm actually the Wicked Witch of the West. My green skinâs just hidden under some body paint at the moment. Donât look at me too closely,â she teased. âBut okay, what kinds of demons?â As for whether or not she was a demonologist⊠Nell shrugged as a part of her answer. âI just know a lot about demons is all.â
Kicking Connorâs butt wouldnât have been hard. He preferred to talk his way out of situations, but he opted not to say anything about it, his eyes instead following the wrinkly-skinned old man as he walked the perimeter of the property. âOh, umâŠâ He took a moment to answer her question, having to tear his eyes away from the corpse-man and the weird cat. âA few basic ones. Bannik, Badalisc, Alp, and then just the basic non-specific kind, but not that powerful.â Since sheâd asked a more leading question, he wasnât going to outright lie about his prowess. In the days of pulling receipts, he knew it would just bite him in the arse later. âYou have a dog?â he asked, eyes drawn to the kennel. âCan I pet him?â
Nell tried to keep her expression neutral as she did her best to mentally shoo Corpsey away. Get out of here, old man! Go be a knock off zombie somewhere else! Of course, it was no use. He couldnât hear her, and even if he could, he wouldnât care. After all, since Bea was the one who raised him, she was the one he took orders from. She had to tell Connor something, though. The walking corpse could possibly pass a human, but there was certainly something...off about him to the naked eye. âOh, donât worry about him- thatâs just UncleâŠâ Uncle who? â-Cory.â Cory and Corpsey. Good enough. âHeâs harmless, but nosy. Probably just wondering why I invited a guy into the greenhouse. Heâs a little overprotective,â she added with a light chuckle, and the slightest air of flirtation. Maybe thatâd be enough to distract Connor. âBut nice! Thankfully those guys donât usually cause actual death. Were you here when giant Cthulhu Squidward wanted to make the town his own personal Hellscape, though?â She followed his gaze towards Gregâs wooden and spacious doghouse that was just a stoneâs throw outside her greenhouse. âUhhhhh,â she hesitated, deciding how much she should tell Connor. âWell that is actually home to one of the demons,â she finished with a chuckle, figuring telling him about Greg couldnât hurt. âHe prefers eating hands over being pet by them in the beginning.â
âRight,â Connor answered skeptically. âUncle Cory.â Sure. Why not? Didnât they all have uncles with grey, decaying skin who walked around in a daze? He gave a lighthearted snicker at her excuse, flashing her a grin. âWhat, so you donât normally invite blokes over to the greenhouse? Should I be flattered?â As an exorcist, he was distrusting of demons, but not fully experienced enough to have seen the extent of the horror they could bring. Probably why he was not only inquisitive and curious about Nellâs life, but actually having fun. âNo, I missed Squid-thing, and lobster-thing, and fish-rain thing. From what I know about this place though, itâs not long before something else crazy happens.â His gaze was still longingly on the kennel. âA demon dog?!â He was heartbroken. âSo⊠no petting? Thatâs just cruel.âÂ
âExactly,â Nell replied brightly, trying to continue down the road of innocence as Connor repeated the name. It didnât seem like he really bought it, but at least her attempts to draw his attention away from the corpse with a bit of a flirt seemed to be doing something. âI donât know,â she teased back with her head coquettishly tilted to the side, a small smirk on her lips. âDo you want to be flattered?â So he hadnât been here for the squid demon. That was probably for the best. After all, it hadnât exactly been a fun time. âDamn, you really missed out. There was calamari for days by the end of it.â It was true what he said about White Crest, though. There was always something going on in the not-so-sleepy town. It was endearing how excited he seemed by the prospect of a demon dog, though. âWell...petting Greg probably isnât the best idea just yet. But I have a different demon dog you could pet.â She rolled up one of her sleeves, revealing both the mottled, patchwork scars that covered the entirety of her arms as well as one of her sigil tattoos.
âIâm always flattered when I get compliments from a pretty girl,â Connor answered, his dumb, innocent charm somehow managing to make the line not entirely cringe-worthy. âEspecially when she shows me her demons.â He scrunched up his face at the thought of the sky fish falling down around them. âDonât reckon Iâd want to eat that kind of calamari, or giant horse-sized lobster that tried to kill me, although, that would be a pretty sweet victory feast,â he teased. His eyes widened like a kid at Disneyland as the mentioned another demon dog. âReally? Where?â She started to pull up her sleeves. Oh no. It better not have been burned into her flesh or a Quirrel-Voldemort situation. He breathed a sigh of relief when he saw she was drawing attention to her tattoo. âWhat does that do? It looks mystical.â Â
The corners of Nellâs lips turned upwards in the beginnings of a smirk, amused that heâd somehow managed to pull off the line. âWell it looks like youâre on track for possibly getting more with an attitude like that. Careful though- I might think youâre just using me for my demons,â she finished playfully. A small chuckle was pulled from her before she moved on to talk of meals that may or may not have once tried to kill her and the inhabitants of the town. âThatâs the point! Itâs the best victory feast! Whatâs that line about revenge being a dish best served cold? This is revenge literally served as a dish.â Should she tell him about the magic now? Or just let him figure it out himself when three fully grown hellhounds sprang from her arm? The latter definitely had a larger possibility of having some laugh factor, so she opted for that. âItâs a sigil,â she replied with a twinkle in the corner of her eye. Then she was biting her thumb until it bled, and swiping it over the tattoo along with a few muttered words of Latin. Almost instantly, the three demon dogs formed from the magic, excited to have been Summoned.
Connor gave a little laugh. Nell was proving to be pretty good company. âUsing you? Not at all. In fact Iâd probably get a good belting from most other exorcists for not expelling them back to hell or whatever.â He waved his hands in a playful spooky motion as he spoke. âCall me old-fashioned, but I just donât trust food that falls out of the sky.â His eyes widened as she bit down on her thumb, but he knew better than most that some rituals required blood. He usually just used a small knife rather than his teeth, though. He kept his eyes on her, watching carefully, and when the hounds appeared, he yelped, almost tripping over a watering can and some potted plants in his rush to get out of the way. This was it. This was how he died; mauled to death by hell-dogs in a greenhouse.Â
The coy air that Nell had been employing continued to hang around her as she gave the young man in front of her a sly smile. âWow- youâre really putting yourself out there for me, arenât you?â The words had an underlying tone of sarcasm as a means of teasing, knowing full well it wasnât for her benefit. Then she shifted back into a more informative mode. âYeah, some people call it hell. Itâs sort of like...its own separate dimension for them. Like another world you can just yoink them from or yeet them back to. I canât believe youâre so unwilling to live on lifeâs edge when it comes to sky food, though.â Had she eaten anything that came from the sky? Definitely not. But it was fun to joke about. The first thing the witch registered was some of her plants almost getting trampled, and a frown was quick to her lips. âWatch out!â she chastised disapprovingly. But then she noticed just how alarmed Connor was, and her hands were quick to come up in a calming motion. âHey- hey! Itâs alright! Theyâre not gonna hurt you!â As if to prove a point, the friendliest of the hounds, Scooby, padded forwards- considering Connor with a slightly cocked head, ears perked in his direction. âHeâll let you pet him, if you want.âÂ
Connor didnât scare easily. It was kind of a necessity to have a thick skin when you dealt with demons and spirits almost every day, but bloody hell, Nell had managed to scare the life out of him. âYouâre lucky Iâm wearing dark trousers,â he teased, finally letting himself laugh as the air seemed to return to his lungs. Now that he knew they werenât about to play with him like a chew toy, they were actually kind of⊠cute. âAw.â He approached, cautiously, hand outstretched. âHelloâŠâ Heâd definitely rather be petting a golden retriever, but this was good too. âWhere did you get them? How does it work?â He cocked his head, looking over at her tattoo. âYou owe me a really good story for almost making me shit my pants. Maybe even a drink. Or some dinner.â He smiled at her coyly.Â
Nell snickered a little at the mention of his trousers before saying, âAww- was the big, bad exorcist a little frightened? Maybe my uncle was wrong to be worried about you in the greenhouse.â The words were meant in good fun, just as the rest of her teases had been. As Connor offered a hand, Scooby sniffed at it and eagerly nosed pressed to the palm of his hand as he searched the young man. âHeâs looking for treats,â Nell clarified in a gentler voice, one that was generally reserved for the creatures she worked with. âThereâs a jar next to you with some bits of meat in it if you wanna give them to him.â She wouldnât say exactly what kind of meat it was. âI first Summoned Scooby- the one sniffing you- when I was sixteen. You know- with magic. He wasnât nearly as wanting to be friendly back then but- he got used to me after I worked with him a lot. Then he brought his brothers along one day,â she said gesturing to the other two hounds. âThis oneâs Shaggy,â she said, pointing to the largest of the lot who was beginning to approach Connor as well, âand this is Scrappy.â The last of the hounds was positioned quite seriously next to Nell, considering the exorcist with an eye that seemed to be deciding whether heâd be a nice snack or not. In a moment her own flirting grin was back on her lips. âWell seeing as it wasnât that great of a storyâŠâ she started, as if she were mulling the thought over. âI could maybe find the time for a drink.â
âIâll have you know Iâm neither big nor bad,â Connor chuckled, self-deprecating. Five-foot-eight accompanied by a slight build and a baby face didnât exactly strike fear into most peopleâs hearts. The posh accent and floppy hair, neither. He tried not to piss himself while the hound sniffed at him, and followed Nellâs instructions, tossing him some treats, which got the others pretty interested in Connor too. âI knew there were witches and warlocks and stuff, but Iâve never seen one with⊠this.â He gestured to the creatures around them, and Uncle Corpsy as he made another pass around the greenhouse. He wasnât ashamed to admit that this kind of power was both intriguing and attractive. âWell then, love, name the time and place.âÂ
A chuckle fell from Nell as Connor joked at his own expense, and she could appreciate his ability to not take himself too seriously. âMy mistake, I guess you just look taller in your videos,â she decided to poke a bit more fun at him. She hadnât seen tons of them, but after heâd shown her his YouTube channel sheâd been curious enough to watch some of the videos. They were interesting to say the least, especially since she didnât know all that much about spirits or ghosts. Shaggy and Scooby were all too ready to accept treats from Connor, but Nell made sure that Scrappy stayed alongside her, scooping up some separate treats for the smallest of the hellhounds. He was generally the most aggressive, and she wasnât keen on taking any chances at the moment. Her lips twitched into another smile as he mentioned witches, and nodded in confirmation of that word. âTo be fair...Uncle Corbin isnât mine.â The words were colored with amusement. Apparently the âuncleâ ruse hadnât stuck. But she wouldnât openly out her sisters that also lived here as witches. Most people simply assumed that the three of them were after finding out that one was a witch, but that was Beaâs and Luceâs business. But a time and place? The words made it sound like more of an actual date to Nell, and she wasnât sure she wanted one of those. But she was probably overthinking it, and went with the first words out of her mouth. âDellâs is always good. Or- actually, have you been to The Seven Selkies, yet? Itâs got a fun supernatural crowd.âÂ
âYeah, yeah. Hard to tell how tall someone is when theyâre in frame by themselves,â Connor snickered, pulling out his vape (probably bad form to smoke actual cigarettes in someoneâs greenhouse). He gave her the kind of smile that said he didnât exactly believe her when she talked about Uncle Corbin, but he wasnât going to directly challenge her on it. âThe Seven Selkies sounds great.âÂ
