Every year like clockwork I return to the same conceptual idea for a devotional art piece. It has so many iterations and variations on the same theme.

My partner was contacted by Cerunnos, and I noticed you were a follower of him.

Is there any advice or tips he should know before deciding if it's the right deity for them?

great question! so i’ve been working with cernunnos for 2 years now as a devotee and generally read celtic mythos and theology with him in it since the beginning of my practice about 5 years ago.

1. he’s not the “all-father” like odin or zeus is in mythology, this misconception makes people think he is an overseer of the celtic pantheon — when in reality he is a guardian of a major part of the pantheon: nature!

2. he’s very… chaotic? but very very very wise. if your partner likes working with a deity that’s bold, blunt, and full of guidance — their in the right place! if they prefer more structure and demand, maybe not so much.

3. divination, folk, and green witchery is probably the best way to work with him; this is in my personal experience, however, he truly is ancient and modern forms of spell work don’t seem to be as effective for reaching out.

4. father-child dynamic 100%!!! if your partner is looking for comfort and closure, cernunnos is definitely a good deity to research!

5. as offerings go, he’s very much a “i’ll have what you’re having, as long as we share.” basic nature things like acorns, nuts, rocks — hell, even water and alcohol will make him happy. being respectful of the parts of nature we may not like (such as death, hunting, and taxidermist-y) is an integral part of working with him. life and death go hand-in-hand!

6. don’t ever be afraid to ask him things directly, this goes with most deity’s — but i’ve noticed most deity’s and gods from the celtic pantheon are happy to be included 😭😭!

• Make Moon Water and use it to water your garden or house plants while taking time to reflect on the beauty of nature.

• Light a Green candle on your altar to represent the spirit of nature, and to give thanks for your health and vitality, or to manifest healing.
