AU where Rimmer and lister are together before Lister goes into stasis.
Lister mentions Rimmer in his āeveryoneās dead?ā Bit. But under a different feeling. The whole āshe was my dream girl. She was in me plansā part would be about rimmer.
Listers reaction when Rimmer shows up as his hologram. But then they canāt touch.
Maybe when they go to the alternate universe where Lister would hook up with himself he hooks up with lady Rimmer? Or still him self but Rimmer is a bit mad, maybe understanding in the long run.
Same for when Rimmer is with Nivara? Rimmer and Lister had been a bit rocky after the twins left. Like most parents who lose kids. Then the whole Nivara thing happens with the holo ship. Part of why Rimmer comes back to the bug is that he realized he my care for and even love Nivara but he loves Lister above all. It also gives him a better perspective of why lister would hookup with deb. Having someone to touch and all, after not being able to touch, it does things to you.
When Rimmer gets his hard light upgrade they have to relearn being together. They hadnāt been together long before stasis and the 3mil years in space. Getting to relearn each other and relearn physically sharing a space together. Also years have passed and theyāve both changed a bit. So they might have to work through that.
When Ace comes to ask Rimmer to take his place they have to have a long talk about it. How the universe needs an Ace and the current one canāt get to another one. So Rimmer leaves even though they finally have each other. Neither is sure if itās the right choice but they know itās what the universe probably needs.
Lister misses Rimmer for real after. The episode āblueā would take on new meanings.
Then can you imagine how Lister would feel seeing nano Rimmer? Heās finally more ok with not having his Rimmer and here is his original Rimmer when their relationship was new. Before Lister know everything there was to know about Rimmer. This Rimmer barely even knows Lister really. Theyāve only just been going out for a few weeks/months from his view.
BTE would be very different. Maybe Listers happy ending would be to have his original Rimmer back, the one who left to be Ace. But he chooses nano holo Rimmer because of what theyāve built. Iād like to believe that rimmer in BTE and onward is our ace Rimmer. But who knows. I think in the show itās implied that itās nano Rimmer.
I imagin starting again with nano Rimmer would be weird and hard but would also be a bit like in the show. Lister doesnāt have any of the baggage from the years of soft light. Not with this Rimmer. So they can almost skip some steps and be closer. Like with their friendship in the show in series 8.
Series X-XII would be true old married couple no mater which Rimmer is present.
The whole Mighty Light and moon/sun stuff from Promised Land would be so sweet too. Rimmer being faced with his being a hologram and what that means to some, it brings up old wounds and insecurities. The moon/sun speech would be more about being in love and all. (Like itās not already! šš)
