For Restraintstiel Week Day 3: Rope

Summary: Castiel has been warned about staying vigilant when he's in human territory, but he's always been a little too confident for his own good. When he settles down for a post-meal nap, the last thing he expects is to wake up caught in a fishing net and fighting for his life.

Castiel got a careful grip on his chosen stone, and issued a precise strike to the shell of the clam he’d placed in the shallow curve of the flattest rock he knew. The clam split open, and Castiel quickly scooped it up and raised it to his mouth, using his sharp teeth to tug the meat free and relishing the squish and tear of it. Delicious.

Some of his hair got caught in his mouth, and he was reminded that it was time to chop it shorter again. It spent most of its time drifting in a loose halo around his head, but it did get annoying when he accidentally chewed on it. He would cut it after he finished eating, he decided.

There were a dozen discarded shells already scattered around him, but he was still hungry and now out of clams. He dug under the rocks around him with a few of his arms to check for any lobsters that might be lurking beneath, but no such luck. He launched away from the rock, jetting water from the siphon at his waist, and set out to swim to his other favored foraging grounds nearby.

It took a bit of time and tide to swim there, moving through the intricate patterns of warmer and colder waters and watching with satisfaction as silver schools of fish scattered away from him in fear. Everything that lived here feared him, as well they should. He was stronger, smarter, and hungrier than any of them.

But here, in the best hunting grounds, even Castiel had something to fear.

First up, Scarlet herself gets to enjoy a new shape (and a shapely one, at that) under the sea, turning into a red-tentacled cecaelia a la the Little Mermaid's Ursula! Fortunately for all though, this girl is no trickster-y sea witch, but just some hapless surface dweller turned water breather trying to make her way beneath the waves. And going by Crim's own history, maybe a formerly male one at that? Hopefully she doesn't miss the open air either way! The poor unfortunate soul...

You've happened upon a tiny cecaelia! The quiet beige creature suddenly comes alive with pulsing blue eyes on a sea of glittering gold. It seem you've startled her! Best back away so she has a chance to calm down before you approach. You wouldn't want her to bite.

Cecaeliae are sentient mollusks, unrelated to mermaids, which are fish. Instead of being descended from them, cacaelia mimic the mermaid body plan, using their color-shifting chromatophors to form a pseudoface on what is actually the creature's main body. The mouth, nose, and eyes are all carefully controlled markings, while the eyes are set on the side of the head.

This Blue Ringed Octopus cacaelia has the same body plan as other octopus and cuttlefish "mermaids." Those cute shiny "cheeks" are actually her complex eyes, and the "eyes" on her face mere mimicry. Hopefully it works to warn you off of a surprise hug! That could end very badly for one of you. You see, those beautiful blue rings warn of a deadly tetrodotoxin venom she possesses, but would really rather not use. Why don't you get to know her first?
