Why was nobody gonna tell me that Angélica Santos (Cebolinha’s voice actor) plays Lilly Lovebraids in the Portuguese dub of Poppy Playtime :O in all seriousness, I think it’s actually really cool and a little funny cuz Lilly’s voice is actually just Cebolinha’s voice😭🙏 Legit just found the holy grail.

I never really ventured into Cebolinha and Penha’s relationship, but I really like their dynamic. I like to think that Cebolinha is happy that he’s not with her anymore, but maybe he can’t help but to think about her sometimes. But yeah, Can’t tell you how happy I am with how this came out!
A small Reborn Gods AU fic I made since I wanted to revisit it. Enjoy!
CW: Mourning
It was a sweltering summer day. The sun burned brightly against the clear blue sky and down to where an abandoned dirt courtyard was located. Two beings seemed to locked in a sparing match; a skeletal boy in a green tee slashing his scythe around and a girl dressed up in Roman armor while dodging and trying to hit back with her spiky flail.
“Give it up Mônica! You can’t dodge fowever!”
“Then why don’t I disarm this situation?” The armored girl, Mônica quipped back to the boy as her flail grabbed ahold of his scythe before yanking it out of his bony grip. The weapon clattered to the ground behind her as she chuckled under her helmet. “Guess you didn’t plan for that Cebolinha.”
The skeleton boy, or Cebolinha just blinked before groaning as he ran his clawed hands over his face, mentally kicking himself for not thinking ahead. He grumbled underneath his breath as he marched over to pick up his scythe that landed near the shaded bleacher area. Sitting on the bleachers were three other kids around the same age as the duo; a messy looking boy wearing a fraying loose fitting robe was Cascão, a girl with burn scars, wrapped in so much bandages that she could be confused for a mummy and currently mindlessly gnawing on a bone was Magali and finally, a kid with a strange bowl cut and ponytail who was sitting upside down on his seat was Do Contra.
“You guys just gonna sit thewe all day or you gonna join us?” Cebolinha crossed his arms as he gave an glare at the trio who all gave varying responds of shrugging shoulders to flat-out ignoring. The skeleton hated acting as the leader amongst the group of childish gods when they didn’t listen, the subtle twitching of his eye socket conveyed his annoyance towards them.
“Being lazy will get you nowhewe! You guys awen’t gonna impwove your abilities by being bumps on a log!” Cebolinha’s shrill voice pitched up as he began a long tirade towards the group. “Nobody is gonna take us sewiously as the new hawbwingers of the apocalypse if we’re all short, chubby and- OOF!”
He was suddenly cut off by Mônica who smacked Cebolinha on the skull, causing the skeleton to collapse over onto the ground face first. The other three children just laughed at the five stranded boy’s misfortune. “Don’t use me as an example, you bone-head!” She crossed over her arms while watching Cebolinha use metal bleachers to stand back up.
“And besides, wasn’t it your idea that we train out during the hottest heatwave Brazil has ever seen?” Mônica’s quip rang back into the non-existant ears of the skeleton boy as he just let a “Tch,” in response as he just cut his losses and sat onto the bleachers along with the others.
Relieved that she had gotten through to the arrogant little bone-bag, Mônica made her way over to the bleachers as well and plopped herself down on the metal. For awhile, she just watched the other gods mindlessly doing their own things to keep themselves busy before clearing her throat to get their attention. All four of them turned their heads towards the direction of Mônica with looks of confusion and curiosity.
“How have you guys been holding up? With everything that has happened over the course of…uh, 10 years or so?” She asked while trying to recount the exact dat when they all became gods.
“Hungry.” Magali bluntly responded, looking up from her mindless bone gnawing to look at armored girl. “No matter how much I consume, It’s never enough.” She then looked down at her hands, the bandages that covered over her palms which she frowns at. (though not really visible). “I can still feel the burns on my skin which this heat is not helping with…at all.” She turned her head to the right where Cascão was sitting an motioned for him to go next.
Cascão spoke up as he exhaled. “For me, It just feels like I’ve got a different illness or bug once everyday! Either I’m feverish, nauseous, congested or lethargic!” He listed off the downsides of his powers while he rubbed over his temples. “Like this headache I have now. I mean, what kind of bringer of plague gets sick themselves?!”
“A tewwible one, that’s what.” Cebolinha snarks out loud as he chuckled to himself.
“Ugh! Mônica is right, you are a bone-head!” Cascão fumed as he proceeded to give the skeleton a kick to the head since Cebolinha was sitting one seat below from him. Cebolinha yelped in pain as he began to gingerly rub over the back of his skull with his clawed hand. Mônica facepalmed herself as she watched what was supposed to be a way to open up with each-other turn into another quarrel.
“Wait.” Mônica then turned around to face Do Contra who was now resting on their side as he looked up into the sky. When he felt the presence of eyes looking at him, he turned his head to spare a glance at Mônica with a quirk of his eyebrow.
“You joined us not too long ago right? How have you been doing since all of this?” Do Contra just smirked at the question as he sat up from his resting position, stretching out his arms. After a long time of doing absolutely nothing, he responded to the question.
“Pretty good myself.”
…
“…WHAT!?” A combined shout from the other four children echoed in the area at the shock of Do Contra’s answer. The latter didn’t flinch from the increased volume and doubled down. “I said godhood has been treating me pretty good. Don’t get why you all are complaining about it.”
“We were literally talking about the side effects and the SCARS from our DEATHS and your saying that you just feel all fine and dandy?!” Mônica barks out, her usual temper being to rear it’s head as she stomps her foot on the floor. Magali and Cascão slowly scooted away from the angry war god to not get into range of her fury. “Yep! I mean immortality, powers beyond any normal being…what more can I even want!” He boasted to Mônica as she grumbled under her breath.
This was when Cebolinha, for whatever reason, decided that he was gonna add onto this. Ignoring Mônica and heading straight for Do Contra who still had that easygoing look on their face. The skeleton gazed into the contrarian kid’s eyes before the corner of his mouth turned upwards.
“Well thewe’s gotta be at something you hate about godhood. We all have one.”
“Psh! You’re not gonna find anything with me skull boy. I’m what you call different.”
Do Contra just waved off Cebolinha with xis hand. However, standing down was not what Cebolinha was known for…so he pushed even more. Leaning in even closer as a widen grin grew on the death god’s face.
“What about outliving the people you care about?”
Do Contra’s expression went blank before…xey just shrugged which made Cebolinha faltered as the skeleton went from feeling mischievous to dumbfounded. “W-what-what do you mean you don’t care!? About your family or friends?!” He sputtered in disbelief as the other three also stared at the bowl-haired kid in astonishment.
“Honestly, mortals are just holding back my potential. I’m the god of Chaos! I don’t need my feelings attached to some short-lifespan humans who will barely be a footnote in my biography!” Do Contra explains in a rather conceited way as he began to make his way off the bleachers towards the dirt path leading into the deep woods. “Honestly, I’m better off alone.”
The four children watched as the contrarian god disappeared into the woods, leaving them behind. An awkward silence fills the room which Cascão breaks as he clicks his tongue.
“And here I thought Cebolinha was the prideful one.”
That jab earned him an elbow to the arm by Cebolinha which shortly after, he sighed.
“I hate to agwee but…yeah. Do they really think that way about humans?”
“He goes against popular opinions all the time. And xey always look for the biggest reaction.” Mônica huffed as adjusted her helmet on her head. “Their just doing it for the sake of being annoying.”
Do Contra hops over old logs and small streams as he makes his way down the dirt path.
“So he only just cares about themself? Then why does xe still stay with us?”
They continue down the path, picking some dandelions from the grass until hopping over a metal spiked fence.
“They probably just want to mooch off us for food and shelter until he disappears or something. Do Contra always acts by his own wants.”
“I’d be surprised if even xey cared about somebody other than himself.”
Do Contra finally makes it over the fence where a rows of graves appear in front of them. The young god makes his way pass tombstone after tombstone until he found the one he was looking for. Do Contra kneels down and places the dandelions against the stone.
“Hey it’s me again.”
“Just wanted to drop by and see how you’re doing.”
“The silence treatment eh? And here I thought you were the social butterfly!”
Do Contra laughs at his own joke before it tapers off into a quiet chuckle. He glances back at the grave and sighs.
“I told my friends that I thought being god was great and that there were no downsides for me… but I lied to them.”
“…I couldn’t tell them the truth.”
Do Contra sniffled but quickly wiped away his tears with his sleeves.
“I mean, I’m supposed to keep up my act of a chaotic being! I have to say things that will cause havoc! Communication is overrated in my opinion!”
“…”
“They don’t understand me. You did.”
“So why did you leave me?”
The grave didn’t respond. Only the rustling of the leaves in the wind could be heard. Do Contra dusted himself off as xe stood back up.
“I doubt they’re worried about me but I better get back to the base before they demolish the whole woods out of paranoia.”
“…”
“I won’t be early next time.” They gave a small wink at the grave before turning away and walking out of the graveyard but not before saying this last sentence under his breath.
