It’s not even just with the Marvel family or Vasquez family.

It’s the Sivanas being torn at the seams because Thaddeus can’t let go of his obsession with Cap, leading to two of his kids leaving him and two others latching onto him.

It’s Blaze and Satanus with their bitter feelings about their father, with Blaze striving to take the wizard’s power and Satanus wanting to rule Hell better than his father ruled over them.

It’s Deanne Barr and Pinky Buter trying to keep up with the legacies of Bulletgirl and Mr. Scarlet while mourning their parents.

But most of all, it’s the spirit of CC Batson, betrayed and killed and left behind, using the last of his hold on Earth to guide his lost son to his destiny. It’s him and Marilyn mourning what could’ve been in an alternate timeline. It’s CC fighting fate itself to have their kids be able to grow up together, even if they can’t be there with them. It’s Marilyn telling Ebenezer that he is their GODFATHER, and that he is the one adult their kids would have if anything were to happen to them. It’s Marilyn, holding her children in her last moments in this alternate universe, knowing that despite everything she and her husband may do for them, their children will still face hardships and traumas.

You know how some rumors are baseless? How some people, especially in this day and age, want the juiciest gossip and look for it in the most inappropriate of places?

“Well, we don’t REALLY know what happened to CC Batson, so we? Reports say some saw Marilyn leaving the excavation site. Who’s to say CC didn’t leave before that and she went to find him?”

“Ugh, what an awful man! He left his wife and daughter in a foreign country and went off with stolen goods!”

“Doesn’t he have a son left in America? He’s probably wondering where his dad went off to.”

And the one man who knows the truth, Saied, conveniently had his throat slit.

Idk where im going with this lol. Im imagining Billy spending his childhood hearing these stupid and hurtful stories. It’s so obviously not true but it doesn’t help that there really is no way to prove it because SOMEONE(Ebenezer) won’t pay for a retrieval and It was hard to procure the dig site in the first place.

It’s CC leading Billy to his destiny.

It’s CC and Marilyn giving each of their kids one half of a heart-shaped locket and a promise that they will always be together.

It’s CC and Marilyn finding the tomb of the very evil that their children will one day battle, and dying soon after.

It’s CC leaving an altered will for his kids but it getting discarded by the brother he trusted.

It’s the tiger plushie they got their kids.

It’s the hero friends CC and Marilyn made, who not once diminish Billy and Mary’s heroic deeds because of their age.

It’s both of them knowing they aren’t supposed to be a happy family and still using the last of their time in an altered reality to be with their children/make sure their kids will be able to stay together.

Hes….he’s their GODFATHER? Oh lord, if things weren’t sad enough. I can just picture CC bestowing this title to his brother with the fullest amount of trust he has, truly thinking Ebenezer will take care of his niece and nephew.

I wonder what CC saw in him. Maybe it’s just memories of childhood, of the good ones they may have had. Maybe it’s a thoughtless trust placed jn family. But I can’t picture him and Mary as dumb enough to do so.

Maybe Ebenezer changed overtime, letting money worsen his greed. Maybe his long term jealousy for his half-brother developed over time.

(Also later in the issue I kid you not, he chastises Billy and Mary for running on the newly done floor to get away from an attacker. Props to you, E, you’re such a family man.)

And while he couldn't follow his fathers footsteps in the chemical industry, I would say he did much better for himself.

Wayne Tech has been on the rise as of late and I couldn't be prouder. His efforts in the war certainly helped the boys and I get out. Plus a little smuggling of certain endangered folks never did no harm *wink*.

It seems the gods couldn't decide which would be better for us either 😆.

Like they 100% wore each other’s clothes and tries to do that twin telepathy thing(worked every time because magic and it freaked out a lot of ppl).

Their parents always knew who was who, but CC and Marilyn loved to play along. Total theater kids.
