On June 10, 2026, the BBC announced that the show has been put on competitive tender, for a new co-production partner to help make the show. Bad Wolf Studios and Russell T Davies are out.

The proposed 2026 Christmas special announced in October 2025 has been cancelled. Davies claimed it was never intended to happen and there was never a script, but I only believe him on that second point – he seems to be trying to save face in a very weird way, possibly by trying to throw the BBC under the bus.

On The Rest is Entertainment, Richard Osman posited that the BBC decided to cancel the special in order to put the show out to tender as required by the corporation's charter sooner, with some leadership changes at the top likely hurrying this along.

The CBeebies animated series is still moving forward, and looks to be the only Doctor Who on our TV screens for the foreseeable future as this mess gets sorted out.

Summer Sports Week Day 6: Volleyball

(Opens up to nighttime in the supermarket as the camera pans down to the freezer)

Narrator: “Attention, super viewers! It’s nighttime in the supermarket and Evil Pea’s got a surprisingly soothing plan!”

(cut to the interior of the freezer where we see Evil Pea and her two Corn Cob sidekicks making a batch of extra soothing Bedtime Blooms scented candles using jasmine, lavender, chamomile, vanilla, ylang-ylang and rose)

Evil Pea: (cunningly giggles) “This is it, Cobs! With my extra soothing Bedtime Blooms scented candles, I’ll put every single fruit and veggie to sleep, including that dud spud, Supertato and I’ll finally rule the supermarket once and for all!” (cackles, but stops when her good twin sister Sweet Pea arrives, curious about the scene)

Sweet Pea: “Ooh! Those are some really neat scented candles!”

Evil Pea: “Careful, sis! They’re so soothing they could put any fruit or veggie who takes a whiff to sleep! Besides, I was planning on using them to put Supertato to sleep!”

Sweet Pea: “I know. I wonder what they smell like.” (she goes over to one of the scented candles, much to the horror of her sister and her Cobs as they warn her)

Corn Cob 1: “Sweet Pea, no! They’re too soothing!”

Sweet Pea: “It’s just one scented candle. What’s the worst that could happen?” (she’s getting closer)

Corn Cob 2: “No, Sweet Pea! You can’t do this!”

Evil Pea: “Sis! No, stop!”

(It’s all too late once Sweet Pea takes a whiff and yawns as the super soothing aroma puts her to sleep on her twin sister’s ice pop throne before the ice around her expands, shaking the freezer and turning it into an ice palace as some thorny rose covered brambles grow from the freezer, making the villains rush out of here and hide in a thornless pink rose bush in the plant aisle where Supertato, Carrot, Broccoli, Chilli and Tomato are exploring together)

Supertato: “Oh, I just love exploring the plant aisle at night! Look at all the flowers!”

Carrot: “I’m with you on that one, Supertato! This is a really sweet change of pace from Pea’s usual traps.”

Broccoli: “Yes! Those tulips and gerbera daisies look so colorful!”

Chilli: “No surprise there! Those tiger lilies are just so cool!”

Tomato: “The flowers are all just so beautiful at night!” (sighs dreamily) “It would be neat to camp out here someday!” (dreamily giggles)

(Suddenly, a rose bush is suddenly rustling, catching Supertato’s eye)

Supertato: “Wow, I didn’t know the rose bushes were feeling so lively tonight!” (he walks over to the rose bush and takes a whiff at one of the roses here before his nose unintentionally touches Evil Pea’s, much to his surprise to see her and the Cobs hiding in here) “Oh! There you are, Pea! I wasn’t expecting you and the villains to be here at night! Is there something wrong?”

Evil Pea: “It’s Evil Pea and my Cobs were helping me unleash my latest failed plan involving super soothing scented candles that were meant to put all of the fruits and veggies to sleep, including you, so that I could finally rule the supermarket once and for all!”

Corn Cob 1: “Yeah, but her sister came in and we tried to warn her not to smell one of the candles, but it was too late! She took a whiff and fell asleep on her sister’s throne!”

Corn Cob 2: “Now the freezer’s an ice palace covered in brambles and, well, I’d never thought I’d say this, but we need your help to wake her up from her sleeping spell!”

Carrot: “I know you don’t like us, but don’t worry. We’ll help you wake her up. We promise. First, we need to deal with those brambles you mentioned.” (offers everyone gardening clippers) “Lucky we’ve got these gardening clippers to get the job done!”

(Everyone cuts the brambles as they fall and disappear, leaving thornless bright pink roses in their place. Supertato picks up before he puts them together into a bouquet as he sniffs it a little and lets out a soft sigh)

Supertato: “Wait until Sweet Pea sees this when she wakes up.”

Tomato: “Ooh! They look pretty!”

Carrot: (laughs) “Had no idea you could be so smooth!”

Chilli: “Yeah, you must be a real honorary heartthrob.” (purrs)

(Supertato blushes with appreciation from his friends’ gentle teasing)

Supertato: “Ah, well, I’m more than just a handsome face.” (modestly flashes his winning smile)

Evil Pea: “We know, we know. Now that we got rid of those pesky brambles and left those beautiful roses in their place, we might as well climb up the freezer to get inside and wake my sister up with a kiss.”

Broccoli: “Awwww! It’s just like in those fairy tales where the prince wakes up the sleeping princess with a kiss.”

Supertato: “Well, why didn’t you say so? That’s just what we’re gonna do right now!” (Supertato activates the plunger grappling hook from his Tato-Belt and it sticks perfectly to the top of the freezer) “Hold hands, everyone! We’re all climbing up to the freezer and going in together!” (On his signal, everyone holds hands, climbs up to the freezer and makes it inside safely. Once inside the freezer together, Supertato releases the plunger back to his Tato-Belt and they all walk over to the ice palace to see the sleeping Sweet Pea on the throne surrounded by the bramble-free ice palace.)

Evil Pea: “There she is! I knew she’d be trapped inside fast asleep on my throne even if my Cobs and I tried to warn her not to smell one of my scented candles. Let’s see what you’ve got, Supertato.”

Supertato: “No problem, Pea. We’ll wake your sister up in no time flat!” (Supertato rubbed his hands together, cracked his knuckles and tried to open the freezing ice palace doors, but to no avail upon realizing how strong the doors are) “Muddy spuds! These doors are arguably stronger than even my own potato strength.”

Chilli: (sarcastically) “Well, it’s not like I could just melt the freezer back to normal.” (realizes something) “On second thought, maybe I can.”

Supertato: “That’s what I was thinking! Chilli, you can use your chilli heat to melt the ice palace surrounding the sleeping Sweet Pea herself back to the way it was!”

Chilli: “You’ve got it!” (rubs his hands together) “Now, I’d stand back if I were you. I’m about to melt this ice palace back to the real freezer!” (he cracks his knuckles, activates his chilli heat and rushes over to the ice palace to melt the freezer back to normal as steam and water surround and gently splash everyone)

Supertato: (high fiving Chilli) “Way to melt the freezer back to normal, Chilli! I knew you could do it!” (turns to the others) “Now it’s time for me to wake the sleeping sweet pea up with a kiss.” (he gets out some alcohol and sugar-free citrus mint breath spray from his Tato-Belt, sprays it into his mouth, puts it away with a dazzling smile, gently walks over to Sweet Pea, who is still asleep on her sister’s throne, smooths out his hair a little, gently looks over her and kisses her forehead to wake her up from her slumber as she lets out a soft giggle and her eyes slowly open before fully seeing him wink and flash his winning smile at her)

Sweet Pea: “What happened here and why am I on my sister’s throne?”

Supertato: “You were under a sleeping spell that your sister accidentally put you under with those scented candles she made and well, we all came to your rescue.” (he offers Sweet Pea a thornless bright pink rose bouquet, making her blush a rosy pink) “By the way, I got this rose bouquet as a little wakeup gift just for you.”

Sweet Pea: (blushing) “For me?”

Supertato: “Yeah. You may not be a princess, but a girl like you deserves a bouquet.” 

(Sweet Pea happily accepts the thornless bright pink rose bouquet from Supertato’s gentle hands before she gives him a hug that he happily returns)

Sweet Pea: “Thanks, Supertato! You’re my hero!” (she kisses Supertato on the cheek as he blushes from the gentle gesture) 

Supertato: “Awwww. You’re welcome, Sweet Pea.”

(Carrot, Broccoli, Chilli and Tomato happily coo over the two now that Sweet Pea’s awake before Evil Pea and the Cobs rush over to her for a hug, happy to see her awake from the sleeping spell as she makes eye contact with Supertato)

Evil Pea: (firmly) “Don’t let anyone know about my twin sister’s unexpected beauty sleep.” (gently and with a surprisingly kind smile) “Do I make myself clear?”

Supertato: “Don’t worry, Pea. Your sister’s secret is safe with us.”

(The Tato Team leaves her freezer but not before Sweet Pea looks over to Supertato one more time)

Sweet Pea: “Bye, Supertato! Thanks again for breaking my sister’s sleeping spell!” (she blows him a kiss as he catches it with a smile as he cooed upon the kiss)

Carrot: (playfully rolling her eyes, laughing and gently taking Supertato’s hand) “Come on, Prince Charming.”

(Supertato waves goodbye to the twin peas, who both wave farewell to the Tato Team as Sweet Pea places the pink roses in a vase on a bedside table next to the ice pop throne and admired them with a smile on her face)

Evil Pea: “I know I don’t like that dud spud Supertato and his pesky fruit and veggie friends, but I suppose we all saved your skin back there, sis.”
