I went shopping for pasta this week, and maybe I was not paying close enough attention before, but did you know that in Canada, you can actually buy “Scoobi Doo“ pasta? Ruh-roh! The name sounds like something straight out of a Saturday morning cartoon, but “Scoobi Doo pasta” is the playful nickname for cavatappi, also known as scoubidou, a short, corkscrew-shaped pasta that is as fun to look at…

First Take Points: 5 - cavatappi and cheese!!! i submit to you that cavatappi is the superior macaroni for mac n cheese. cava n cheese? cavacheese?

Remix Bonus Points: 1 - this is a future point, i haven't actually used the rest of my cavatappi in anything yet, but as it is a Very Good Cheese Partner, i bet it will make another appearance.

Amusement Points: 3 - cavatappi is like if fusili went to the gym and got swole. it's adorable, but in a menacing way. "cavatappi" is a great name, it just SOUNDS past-y, which is pretty funny when you consider that it's an actual literal translation of "corkscrews" so you can imagine that someone stocking shelves at williams and sonoma was like "hey hand me the cavatappi" and were quite suprised by the result. "i'd like cavatappi with my wine." "well sure, how else do you think you're going to open the bottle?"

Annoyance Deductions: 2 - i am so impatient. it's a problem. more of a problem is that cavatappi is a very pasta pasta - it needs time in the pot. i could probably get past that, but cavatappi is a very naughty Pasta Water Hider. water gets all up in the spirals, and if you don't diligently shake it out (can you put pasta in a salad spinner? must try...) you're gonna regret sneaking one right out of the pot.
