Catherine Palace Presented to Empress Elizabeth
On July 30, 1756, architect Bartolomeo Rastrelli officially presented the magnificent Catherine Palace at Tsarskoye Selo to Empress Elizabeth of Russia after years of lavish reconstruction. The palace was transformed into one of the finest examples of Russian Baroque architecture, featuring its iconic blue-and-white façade, gilded decorations, and breathtaking interiors.
Designed to showcase the wealth and power of the Russian Empire, the palace reflected Elizabeth's love of grandeur and elegance. Rastrelli's masterpiece included the world-famous Amber Room, often called the "Eighth Wonder of the World," which became one of the palace's most celebrated treasures.
Today, the Catherine Palace remains one of Russia's greatest architectural landmarks, attracting visitors from around the world and standing as a lasting symbol of imperial ambition, artistic brilliance, and 18th-century craftsmanship.
