Here’s a pair of Cathay Pacific Cargo Boeing 747-8Fs at Anchorage- when I took this photo, it was overcast and 1100pm (this was back in August 2017)!⠀ ⠀ In terms of cargo moved, Anchorage is number four in the world, after Hong Kong, Memphis and Shanghai and is ahead of Seoul Inchon. Anchorage’s location astride the Great Circle Route between the United States and Asia is key to its value to the world air cargo market- not to mention that 90% of the industrialized world is within a ten-hour flight of Anchorage. ⠀ ⠀ As a technical stop, cargo aircraft can take on a full payload and make a refueling stop in Anchorage- sure, aircraft like the 747-8F could make just about any city pair between Asia and the United States nonstop, but that would mean trading payload for fuel.
