Thousands are protesting in Barcelona, blocking off major streets and the Sagrada Familia basilica. The protests come after 9 people got jail sentences for organizing a Catalonia independence vote.
Thousands of others are marching on highways from other towns to join them.
Police have arrested 110 people for protesting in Catalonia this week over the jailing of local activists and leaders.
At least 100 have been wounded, including a teen hit by a police van and a protester who lost an eye.
What's going on in Catalonia?
▪️ It is a semi-autonomous part of Spain
▪️ Opinion is split ~50/50 on independence
▪️ After a controversial 2017 vote, leaders declared independence
▪️ This week, Spain's supreme court sentenced leaders who organized the vote to jail
Last but not least. I'm so proud of being catalan today. We are fighting for a better future and fire a truly justice system.
