Ah Mah Homemade Cake (阿嬷老字號) called it Yam (Orh Nee) Castella Cake (S$12.90) but this doesn’t even have yam (taro) paste in it. It is just an Original Castella Cake with cubes of purple yam baked inside. There is hardly any yam flavour to be savoured. What it should have been is a layer of sweetened orh nee (yam paste) spread in-between two halves of the cake. Don’t buy into their gimmick!
A better value is this half & half bundle of Original & Pandan Castella Cake which is on 30% promotional offer, so it cost just S$8.30. You get the soft, melt-in-your-mouth eggy original flavour and aromatic fragrance of pandan in every mouthful.
