i’m in love with the way pantalone looks at dottore here
dottore is a big and psychotic evil guy but not to pantalone. to pantalone dottore is a doctor. his doctor, in the most literal sense. whenever he has a problem that’s who he goes for. dottore is homoerotically playing the piano for him right now and bearing his soul for him. i’m so sick omg.
it’s the way they just naturally gravitate towards each other because they are pretty much the only people in the world who would agree with the other. the methods they use and the way they go about their lives. they are the only people in teyvat who can stand each other. everyone hates them but they have each other.
go, my sparxielings
who do you think was the one who proposed the idea of lung replacement.
was it pantalone, who was getting sicker by the day? or was it dottore, who watched pantalone double over coughing during meetings?
or do you think pantalone just collapsed one day, and dottore had to find a new pair of lungs at breakneck speed?
do you think that was the day they realized they needed more time. do you think that was why dottore made the elixir?
"if nothing else, i expect my funeral will be a grand affair indeed."
cut to pantalone sitting alone at an empty coffin, saying a eulogy into the silence. yes, he thinks, dottore's death was a grand affair... but feofan could not say the same for his funeral.
pantalone sets a simple grave for il dottore. just as zandik was human, so was dottore himself. even if he never saw himself as such, pantalone always knew.

as much as i love dottore getting dragged kicking and screaming from his lab to the opera by pantalone in a desperate attempt to get the former to even so much as look at a blade of grass, i feel like dottore would enjoy the opera. he plays the piano for his loved ones, so clearly he appreciates musical composition.
i feel like segment 65 would love it the most and would willingly go without complaint.
45 would probably as well. maybe a bit of reluctance if he’s busy or had his schedule rearranged.
35 on the other hand, would complain about going and then enjoy his time there.
25 and 18 would likely cringe and call it boring and make up every excuse not to go because they don’t want to be “old and senile and sophisticated” but will begrudgingly realize that they actually like the music. but they’re too far into the bit to stop the commitment.
8… nobody takes him to the opera. he would be fascinated for perhaps 30 minutes at best before getting bored.
do you think the fatui cleaned out dottore’s lab after he died?
pantalone was probably the one who was given the task of getting the people to do it and find people willing to dispose of.. whatever was left in there from his experiments and keep quiet about it.
do you think he was there for it? do you think he watched them take apart what was left of dottore’s existence? or do you think he stayed in his office, trying to work so he wouldn’t have to think about how it was final this time and dottore was gone.
do you think that pantalone took a final walk through dottore’s lab, smoking all the way and thinking about how dottore would’ve told him to put out the cigarette or he’d throw him out of the lab. or do you think pantalone wouldn’t want to go near it now that dottore wasn’t there.
and on that note, do you think pantalone takes alternative routes whenever he has to walk near where the lab was? so he doesn’t have to see people that aren’t him going in and out like they own the place. even though it’s their space now.
do you think pantalone only realized how much of a big part dottore played in his daily routine when he was gone? or do you think he always knew.
i really enjoy dottore and pantalone’s dynamic because it’s something like love that isn’t love. it’s not a word they’d ever use and they wouldn’t ever label their relationship like other characters might. they are soulmate-esque in my opinion. dottore probably had pantalone ready to be experimented on before he noticed that pantalone (aside from the cuts and internal hemorrhaging) was healthier than his other subjects. his vitals were unstable and he was still coherent enough to plead his case and convince dottore not to hit him with the beam of evil experimentation.
you’d certainly think pantalone would have a great deal of malice towards dottore after that, right? wrong. 400 years later they have a sort of partnership that neither of them will back out on.
pantalone admits he never expected dottore to win in the events of the 6.6 main story quest. but he came anyway. dottore gives half of his soul to pantalone to store in the vault of the northland bank because that’s the most logical thing to do. give it to pantalone, who he’s been partners with over the past few centuries.
pantalone develops an allergy after his incident with the chemical burn, and dottore literally makes it so pantalone will never have an allergic reaction again.
and despite how pantalone loathes the gods, he had no problem with dottore attempting to become one. or attempting to create one. dottore literally says “at first, i thought you’d be furious” and then pantalone remarks that “the world regards those who rise to godhood on their own with suspicion, even if they are a compatriot”. he then says he feels bad for the man who considers himself dottore’s compatriot. dottore calls him out by telling him not to be so self critical.
their relationship can literally be described a thousand different ways and still not encapsulate the complex dynamic and i love it.
