#case jackal

What I’m trying to say is that I’ve spent a good chunk of the last few hours trying to track down, download, rip from YouTube, do anything I could to bring some of these old tracks last to time to light, and fellas, I think I’ve got ‘em all!

All of the original Broadway Karkat’s tracks, that is. CantabileGato, now known as TeddyPixels, seemed to lead the charge in Homestuck covers and parodies with their IMPECCABLE Karkat voice acting and GORGEOUS singing voice, but unfortunately fell somewhat out of the fandom for a few different reasons- how garbage it was getting at the time, a surgery that would affect their voice, and just needing some time off. Teddy (previously known as “Zanny”) just sort of fell out of the Broadway Karkat role, and that’s okay! Gone, but certainly not forgotten, Teddy was, for a pretty long time.

HOWEVER!

Recently, Teddy went back online under the new username TeddyPixels- they’d been streaming Animal Crossing for awhile. As of writing this, their Instagram seems to be abandoned, but they are present on Twitter and Twitch!

During Teddy’s time back online, they finally made an Official Soundcloud, where they posted some of the best and most popular Broadway Karkat tracks (originally found on Tindeck which is no longer active, sadly) for the world to hear in glorious HD! There was already a pretty big pool of BWHS tracks uploaded to the site, but it’s wonderful to get your information straight from the source, isn’t it?

I knew that wasn’t all that Teddy had done, however. I’d heard countless more Broadway Karkat tracks that what they had uploaded, and through some research, I found that there were even more in existence than that, simply lost to time, and certainly not present on Soundcloud. So, itching for something to keep me busy, I scoured the internet for the lost tracks. It took me much longer than I’d like to admit to find the LOTUS TIME CAPSULE, which is a collection of nearly every Broadway Homestuck voice clip in existence, from the mainstream Karkat all the way down to the most underground Nepeta. It’s pretty regularly updated and really well organized- thank you so much to the folks (folk?) who managed to compile all this before Tindeck bit the dust, this wouldn’t have been possible without you.

That being said, I give you, BROADWAY KARKAT: THE UNOFFICIAL ANTHOLOGY. It is a collection of every single official musical file released by cantabileGato during their days as our favorite pink-vested superstar. I did my best to gather all the songs not already uploaded to Soundcloud and give them a home and a title, and I’d like you to keep in mind that this is a playlist containing exclusively cantabileGato’s Homestuck voicework. It includes some collab songs featuring other Broadwaystuck VAs, but Teddy is the playlist’s main focus.

The Broadway Karkat torch has since been passed to Case Jackal, another Karkat VA from back in the day, most famous for their work on the AskKarkatVoice blog, now produces their own original stuff. I do believe there to be bad blood between the two nowadays though? I’m not entirely sure. When the BWKK torch was passed, Case tweeted about it, but the video the tweet used to link too now seems to be removed? Additionally, as I was looking through Teddy’s twitter, I came upon a tweet that I can’t seem to find now about credit and album creation and being lowballed, censoring out someone’s name- I don’t quite remember what the tweet said, but I certainly remember it ended with “And don’t even get me started on C***.”

Naturally this is all speculation but they don’t seem to be friends anymore. It’s not my business at all, but I know some people may be curious as to where Teddy is now, and I only wish to provide some insight, as well as everything I know about where they’re at!

That being said, though, as far as I can tell, Teddy has almost entirely removed themself from Homestuck, which is COMPLETELY fair. I believe them to have a pink sparkly tophat custom emote on Twitch, but the one time I’ve seen them mention the franchise recently is is a tweet (which  unfortunately can’t find) where Teddy says something along the lines of not wanting to have twitter recommend they follow yet another Homestuck stan, with Homestuck being almost entirely comprised of asterisks for censorship.

On that note- I mean no disrespect to Teddy with this project! I totally understand why they’d want to remove themself from the fandom, especially with the impact they had on it- I simply still seem to find myself singing the original BWKK tracks under my breath every once in awhile, and wanted to compile what I could find somewhere other fans of their old work could easily access as well.

For Teddy, getting a fresh start, I think, was a great idea- now they seem to be doing something they really love! I tune in to their animal crossing streams every once in awhile, and Teddy seems very happy to be doing what they do. Though it doesn’t explicitly state in Teddy’s chat rules, I feel it’s an unspoken etiquette to just not talk about their Homestuck days- a sort of “We all know what happened, and there’s nothing to talk about, so let’s not talk about it.”

I wish Teddy the best for their future! They made some pretty amazing things, and continue to make fun content that a lot of people can enjoy- most importantly, though, THEY have fun with it! I tried to make this post as comprehensible as I could especially considering it’s length, and I hope you have fun listening to this playlist as much as I had fun compiling it <3

TL;DR: I compiled a bunch of old Broadway Karkat music into a big 4 and a half hour long playlist featuring some new stuff, some old stuff, some stuff popular, and some stuff lost to time.

//”Shut up,” “Karkat: Write a letter,” and “Scales and Arpeggios” have all been copyright claimed and aren’t on the playlist ATM but I've appealed all three, and if they go through (which they should!) they’ll be added shortly! It sucks because Shut Up was always one of my faves :(
