#carson peak

Clouds and mist began to envelop Carson Peak in the Eastern Sierra as I was up in the region late last October. I was there for the fall color, but a new leg of successive early season storms was getting set to roll through the area, and depending on where I was setting myself up, I would get fall conditions, witnter conditions, or some combination of the two.

While this area has a ski resort and small town adjacent to it all, Carson Peak is a bit of a gateway to the backcountry as there are a few trails that lead up over the crest and out beyond the wilderness boundary. As such it's a relatively popular path of entry and egress to trails like the Pacific Crest Trail (PCT) and the John Muir Trail (JMT) for a lot of the people who venture into and out of the wilderness here.

Being in this environment fills me with such a sense of contentment and ease that I can't even describe.
