LOOKIT MY BEAUTIFUL SON!
I am so proud of this stupid tarantula I could burst. When I got him, he was the size of my thumbnail. I bite my nails, so my thumbnail is extra small. He molted once and was a tiny bit bigger and then I made the mistake of bringing him to school to show the children. And one kid who has impulse control issues put the lid back on his sauce cup enclosure. And caught his legs in the rim. And then he kamikaze dashed when I was closing it on a different day. So this poor little dude was down to like three legs on one side and one leg and one pedipalp on the other or something like that. It took him forever to molt, but when he finally did, he had all eight legs and two petty pups back. Tarantulas are incredible. So needless to say his name is Nubbins. And I believe he is male based off of his most recent molt. I’m so proud of him. He is so grown-up and handsome. He should double in size by the time he makes it to adulthood. My only regret is that he probably is a boy and that means he will not live anywhere near as long as he would if he was a girl.
It’s funny, when I got into tarantulas, I saw photos of all the Brachypelma species. And of all of them, the ones I liked the least were the baumgarteni and the klaasi, Mexican pink beauty. And of course now those two are my absolute genus favorites.
