Dolphins galore!
Spectacular encounter with an estimated 2,000 Common Dolphin aboard Fast Cat this morning.
Although they are the most "common" marine mammal off our coast, that doesn't mean they're not amazing! With their beautiful hourglass pattern, curious nature and sheer number they never cease to thrill us and our passengers.

Ocean conditions have been superb the past several days- calm, clear and full of life!
Encounters with both long and short beaked common dolphin have been particularly spectacular. Nursery pods (groups of moms and babies) are ever present and their curiosity of people on the boat is as well.

Marvelous encounter with a fin whale yesterday!
Drone pilot Domenic Biagini captured this aerial shot of the whale in the afternoon sunshine.
Quite a special treat yesterday- a mother Humpback Whale with a calf!
While it's common to see cow and calf Gray Whale pairs off the Dana Point coastline during certain times of the year, it is very uncommon to see a cow and calf Humpback pair.

Sei what? Captain Tom and crew found a Sei Whale yesterday aboard Lily!
Sei Whales are not sighted too often in Dana Point. They are pretty similar to Bryde's Whales in appearance, but have a particularly distinguishing feature; Sei Whales have a single ridge on the top of their head that spans from the blowholes to the snout, while Bryde's Whales have three ridges. Seis can grow to be over 60' in length, making them one of the larger rorqual species.

As of this morning we have had 1,159 Gray Whale sightings this season, making it the 3rd best Gray Whale season in Captain Dave's history!
There have been a particularly high number of sightings in the month of April, with lots of cow and calf pairs. It is very likely that we will continue to see Gray Whales for a few more weeks to come. The season in southern California runs from early December to early May- then we will be in Blue Whale season!
Join us on a safari to look for some more Grays and maybe even some early Blue Whales- plus the Humpback, Fin and Minke whales and dolphin that may be out there too!
