Summary:

Ranna Seneschal is married to Sylvio and grooms children into her religion and then sends them to training camps on a different planet run by John Druitt and Henry Foss. Ranna and Henry have sex and he leads a whole coup against the Church Elders for her and kills the guy that wanted to assassinate her because it was that good. Greg Addison is a government agent on Ranna's ass trying to prove she's a terrorist and gets her situationship to spy on her for him to prove it. James Watson is Addison's boss and is blackmailing him. James is also actually a big dude in Ranna's terrorist organization that was letting her and Sylvio think he was two separate people to make sure they weren't going to turn on him and ultimately feeds them very useful information to aid them. Dr. Li threatens James at gunpoint to save his friends so they can go ruin Ranna's plan to bomb a sports arena and have people to ascend to her virtual heaven.

31: Beginning of the End ---- The Church, Barnabas, and the non-believers loomed like dragons waiting to set fire to their plans. They'd all become bigger adversaries over the years than Clarice had anticipated. With the danger, they couldn't risk Zoe, not when God spoke to her. Not when she would lead them to apotheosis.

So Clarice sent her to Gemenon with the knowledge that her life's mission was coming to fruition at last.

When the bombing was shown on the news, everything came crashing down.

Perhaps Clarice's devotion would ruin her in the end. If it did, she wouldn't let it until she was finished. ----

30: Zoe ---- It was immediately apparent that Zoe's mind rivaled that of anyone Clarice had ever met, despite still being a child. Zoe took to God faster than she'd anticipated and Clarice knew she would be a star in the training camps when she eventually reached Gemenon.

In all her years of teaching, no other student had ever matched Zoe. When Zoe showed her what she had created in the v-world, she realized that Zoe was what she had been seeking, was God's direction for apotheosis.

Zoe was the answer, chosen by God. She was the one that would guide them all. ----

29: Obstacles ---- When Clarice spoke of her quest for an afterlife that would allow continued service to God, many believed that she meant rebirth, like ressurrection. She scorned that idea. It was greedy to expect reward for faith, especially with no guarantee of continued faith in a new life.

No, God's afterlife would allow all his soldiers to continue serving while even more turned to him. There would be no point if the numbers stayed the same, if the faithful pretended to be faithful for a promised new life.

Her problem was she could never figure out to achieve what was needed. ----
