Postcard issued by U.S. record label Capitol in 1992 promoting the Crowded House song “It’s Only Natural,” the fifth single from the band’s 1991 album, Woodface.
Since there is no postmark or address on this card, I must have picked it up at a record store, probably Newbury Comics.
The wood-grain pattern on both sides of this glossy, color postcard is the clear reference to Crowded House’s Woodface album. It was a bit of a letdown compared to their previous LP, the dark and moody Temple of Low Men, which remains my favorite of theirs.
Even though Crowded House are a famous band, I still find it hilarious that this song alone has its own Wikipedia page, On it I learned that “It’s Only Natural” was released solely as a promotional single in the U.S. Kind of strange for a single you couldn’t actually buy in stores, but I’m sure the desired outcome by Capitol—and, by extension, all record labels—was for people to simply buy the album.
