The beach stretched out in front of them. Sophie seemed zoned out. She was the only woman, and she knew it. For now, she had pinned up her hair under her helmet, keeping her cover for as long as she could, and felt like doing so. It gave her a pressure in some way. She wanted to be strong, fight hard, prove that women were capable of fighting in the war too. She was too sunken in thoughts to realize someone was bumping her shoulder, until they waved a hand in front of her face.
"You there?" Sophie looked next to her, and was now facing a man that looked a little over her age. He looked like he knew what he was doing here. "Since when they allow women here?" Sophie's eyes widened, and questioned how he knew. Sure, maybe her face shape, but that wouldn't give her away right? Now wasn't the time to wonder about that, so she focused back on the beach once again. He wouldn't tell on her during the invasion. Maybe after, if both of them even survived. She was preparing herself for what was to come. And how cruel it might have sounded, she hoped one of the guys with a sniper died, so she could snatch it. She bet that she'd be able to take down at least two guys in the bunker.
As soon as the ramp opened, the blood was already flowing. The men in the front were shot, and without even a single thought, Sophie threw herself off of the side of the boat. Her body hit the cold water, paralyzing her for a split second. She quickly gained back her senses though, and attempted to swim upwards, but her pack was too heavy. She had to get it off. She struggled, as her lungs grew tighter. She got it off, and chucked it behind her in the water. The water was a nasty colour of red. It made her feel nauseous for a moment, but she didn't have time for that. Should've thought about that before she enlisted. She walked through the water, trying her best to not get hit by any bullets, for as far as she could avoid them. There were dead soldiers floating on the water, her comrades, the ones that were supposed to fight besides her but hit too early. She did a little prayer in her mind for them. Though she didn't necessarily believe in a God, she respected they might did and hoped that her prayer would get them to whatever heaven they believed in.
She ran onto the beach, hiding behind a tank stopper. It would keep her safe for now. Many soldiers dropped dead besides her, and she felt bad for them. She rushed over to ones in cover, trying to stop the bleeding as best as she could. She looked around in the hopes of seeing a sniper somewhere, and she struck gold. There was a dead soldier just behind her, who's sniper seemed to be in perfect state. She snatched it, and felt bad for a moment, but then realized what she was doing this for. She also grabbed his ammo, and replaced it with hers. With that, she laid the sniper on top of the tank stopper she'd been hiding behind, and looked through the scope, looking for a Nazi. She soon saw one in the bunker, and she aimed, rested, and shot. It was clear she hit, because the shooting stopped for a moment, gaining her men a few seconds. With that, several soldiers stormed up further on the beach, taking cover behind a small hill. She looked through the scope again, hoping to spot another German, but she couldn't. As Sophie was about to give up, she saw one pop up from behind the machine gun, and saw this as a chance. She aimed, but didn't rest, she immediately shot. She saw the German drop lifelessly to the ground, and did a little internal victory dance. As more and more soldiers were storming the beach, she decided to join in, running off in the hope to reach the hill.
She ducked down, and her body hit the sand. There was groaning all around her, and she tried to look at the soldiers, while not getting shot. "What are you doing with that sniper, soldier, aren't you supposed to be a medic? Thanks for the enthusiasm but there's people dying." She heard the biting words from besides her, and looked over to see an older man. It took her a little to recognize him, but she soon realized it was Captain Miller, her superior. "Excuse me sir, but I was the one who took down two Nazi's in the bunker with this sniper, sir, so I'll gladly go on and do that again." She spoke with a respectful, but set tone, making clear she wasn't going anywhere. She stopped a soldier's bleeding, and grabbed her weapon again. She set up the sniper, though she wasn't even sure if this would be a good enough point to shoot from. She made an attempt anyways, looking at the bunker through the scope. "Are you sure you took those two German's down, and not somebody else?" Miller talked from besides her, but she tried to focus on the bunker. "Just watch." She told him, as she saw a German with some ammo in his hands. She aimed, rested, and shot. It went right through the head, and the German fell down dead. "And that's three captain. Hope I won't have to prove myself more." He just looked at her, with a look of doubt, but also some far, hidden respect.
She looked as they grabbed some Bangalore torpedoes, and set them up. She took those moments to tend for a soldier's wound. The torpedoes easily broke through the barbed wire and shingle. The troops rushed through, as there was now a path created to run through. Her body seemed to refuse, struggling to get up, but somebody scooped her up to her feet, and then ran further without her. She tried to catch up to him, but he was fast. She just followed the other soldiers, but they stopped. There was screaming down at the beaches, as the medics tried their best to patch up any soldiers who were still alive. She felt bad for not being down there, but she knew that she was also needed as a medic further onto the beaches. She pushed through the soldiers to see what was happening. There were two Mortars, and two MG42's. She cursed under her breath, as she tightly grabbed her sniper. She zoned out for a moment, until she heard her name being called. "Jones!" She snapped out of it, and looked at captain Miller. "I'm sending our other sniper, Jackson, down to that crater over there. Can you try with your sniper over here? See what you're able to do." She nodded and grabbed her sniper. As a few soldiers covered for Jackson, he ran down the hill and into the crater. She looked through the scope, but those stupid Nazis were hiding. Jackson had already taken down one, when she saw a small ammo container. She took the bet, and shot it. It exploded, sending the sandbags in the air and one soldier rolling down the hill. She heard the gunshots from the other soldiers around her, killing the Germans. She caught up to Jackson. "Nice shot. Got him right in the neck." She gave him a pat on his shoulder before taking off in a little sprint. He followed her, jogging next to her. "Could say the same 'bout you. Didn't see that ammo container." She smiled a bit at the compliment, as the soldiers took over the beach little by little. "Looks like they're finishing up the last Germans." She smirked. "Yeah, sure looks like it." He looked at her, gave her a firm pat on the back, and started walking away. "I gotta go, might see you another time."

Jane Sophie Jones was never like most girls. She didn't like cooking, she couldn't sew, and she absolutely hated doing chores. Instead, she liked to play out in the mud with the boys, play with wooden swords and with wooden guns. From a young age she knew she wanted to join the army, and she'd do everything to accomplish that.
She'd study medics, enlisting and being accepted into the study as 'James'. Each single day before leaving, she'd pin her hair up and wear a hat for the whole day. The excuse she used? She was balding at young age, which he was ashamed for. She graduated top of the class, and after was revealed as a woman when her hair fell down her hat. Everyone was in shock, because how could a woman perform that well?
She soon decided she didn't like the name Jane, and went by Sophie. She enlisted into the army, but again as James, pinning her hair up and hiding it under her helmet. She acted a manly voice and manners. No one would've noticed, wouldn't it have been for god damn fucking Williams, who thought it would be funny to rip off her helmet, and with that loosening all of the pins in her hair. Her long brown hair had fallen down, and she was busted. She was sent away from training, though she was probably one of the best men they had. She could use every weapon easily, and excelled especially in the sniper.
To her surprise, she wasn't sent away from the army completely. She was sent to the Medic's training, being the only woman there to her surprise. She learned how to remove bullets stuck in bodies, stop the bleeding from bullet wounds, and patch shot soldiers up.
She had to do things to be allowed out there. Be allowed to even go to Europe. She didn't talk about that though.
There was an unknown world that opened for her when she got send out with the hundreds of troops, trying to invade the beaches of France. She was given a crappy weapon, and was sent off to fight for her country.
