#cap speaks

My dad had never seen any formula racing before, so it was really fun seeing how much he enjoyed it as a first experience!

We got to see FR Americas, F4 US, and Ligier Junior Formula Championship …as well as some muscle cars and classic cars racing too.

They also let us walk around the paddock! I was a little too nervous/anxious to really interact with anyone, but it was still so cool getting to walk through and see all the different teams.

And yes… we found the gift shop. 😂 I was very tempted by a McLaren shirt, but I showed some self-control and came home with a “Weekends Are for Racing” T-shirt instead.

Just kind of sucks not was the last night and I didn’t get to know anyone close enough to actually connect through phone or socials. Though I did get one persons dad’a number…they swiped my car on the way out and luckily they left a note but I got kind of overwhelmed. I called campus police to make a report and that didn’t go the greatest. I actually feel like a jerk for doing it now tbh. But I’ve been hit before and when I didn’t have a report I got kind of fed over bc of it so I was trying to cover my bases but different state different rules. So there’s a campus report but not a police report. It’s hopefully minor and neither party will have to use insurance. Just sucks it happened on the last night.

The race was still ongoing, and my family was eager to leave for the beach, so they went without me. They have a guy who helps out by driving a golf cart to take people on and off the beach, but since I was planning on going later, I was just going to walk the couple of blocks.

Well, the driver noticed they were one short from yesterday (me) and my dad explained I was still watching the F1 race, and the driver goes, “Oh, is she super into it?” My dad goes, “Oh yeah.” They continue their trip, and as he’s dropping everyone off, the driver says, “Let me know when she’s ready. I’ll come pick her up after the race is over.”

So my dad tells me, and about an hour later the race is over, I’ve watched the podium ceremony, and the driver comes to get me. He pulls up, looks at me, and goes, “Oh, the Formula 1 shirt and hat… you really are into it.”

We ended up talking the whole ride about the race. Asked me who won and what had happened. He told me he’s more of a NASCAR person, but he thought it was really cool that I was so into Formula 1. There was also a moment where he looked at me and goes “you can handle speed right” as he gunned it. It was pretty funny.

“How did your guys do” insert me crying over the Oscar DNF. But he listens to me rant about the race and how Lando won but at what cost. And then he gets quiet and goes “what about the Italian 19 year old”

I lore dropped so hard on this man yesterday and he remembered

My family left without me so I could finish the race. So i had to hitch my own ride
