"When seagulls follow the trawler, it is because they know sardines will be thrown into the sea. Thank you very much."
I just read a fanfic that reminded me of 90's Eric Cantona. Epic.
"I have many great moments, but the one I prefer is when I kicked the hooligan"

Man United remake 'Cantona kung fu equipment' as 2025-26 third jersey
Manchester United have gone again to the glory days of the mid-Nineteen Nineties in the hunt for inspiration for his or her new retro third equipment — and might you blame them? The selection of colors alone will immediately ignite nostalgic pangs in all supporters of a sure classic after they see Ruben Amorim’s gamers run out sporting it in the course of the 2025-26 Premier League season. –…

An artist, a poet, a madman, and a genius. King Eric's story is pure gold. Eric Cantona didn’t just lead Manchester United — he defined them. So how did a volatile French forward become the face of English football’s rebirth?
This short documentary explores the unpredictable brilliance of Eric Cantona: from his turbulent time in France to his meteoric rise in England.

I read a (really good) viktuuri fanfic which spends a bit of time on the process of Victor learning Japanese and at the end we discover he has picked up the local accent. It made me nostalgic for the sports stars of my youth - Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Peter Schmeichel sounding much more Mancunian than I ever could, Rubens Barrichello suddenly talking with a stereo accent (Brazilian and Scots) when he was driving for Stewart. Then I thought of Eric Cantona and his improvised slam poetry:
"When seagulls follow the trawler
It is because they know
SARDINES
will be thrown into the sea.
Thank you very much."
And then he left. You can't fish for sardines with a trawler, and he definitely didn't know what "trawler" meant, but that didn't matter. The assembled press didn't know either, and were too busy pretending not to know exactly what he meant, which was, in summary "you are a bunch of parasitical hypocrites, I'm glad I kicked the hooligan, you are delighted I kicked the hooligan, and we all know it". I also learned an important life lesson from this moment, which is that "Thank you very much" is a great way to say "this conversation is over, and I have already left".
