Ice Cream Shops Shaped Like Ice Cream
You know the ice cream is good if the building is shaped like it.
They just don’t make stores like they used to, in my opinion. There’s a kitschy, old world charm that comes with businesses from the early 20th century that took the time to shape their buildings like the thing they were selling. Here are two examples in Pennsylvania.
The first is the Turtle Twist in Canonsburg, PA. It’s named for its turtle mascot who holds a cone and wears a cap atop the giant soft serve roof. It’s a former Twistee Treat, a chain ice cream spot known for its cone-shaped buildings. The joyful turtle adds a unique “twist.”
The second is Igloo Soft Freeze in Everett, PA. It’s more of a dollop than a scoop of ice cream, but it’s painted to look like a sunday, with a cherry to complete it. It’s only a mile from a giant quarter sculpture along the Lincoln Highway, so it’s worth the trip.
