i have been possessed again by the realisation how much grrm loves dany. he replaced prince aeryn, one of the many irrelevant sons of jaehaerys i and alysanne, by their firstborn daughter daenerys. a darling princess, so smart and bright, having her mother good queen alysanne insist on her right to be the queen regnant as the firstborn despite jaehaerys's clear favouritism towards male primogeniture, dying so young, too soon to the illness called shivers, despite the statistics of targaryen children being not affected by the common diseases. jaehaerys meant to bring a hatchling for her, most likely for their magic to fight off the strange illness, but it was too late. (he never learnt from his mistake and caused a lot of tragedies for his other daughters down the line).
and what of second daenerys? she was a daughter to a shitty king aegon iv that mistreated everyone around him and his sister-wife naerys most of all. her much older brother daeron, after finally becoming the king and dealing with the corruption at court left after their father, made a marriage pact with dorne. and while there is a tale about this second daenerys opening the water gardens to the low-born children and realising how they're not different from highborn, serving as a wisdom about ruling passed from one martell ruler to another, in the end of the day she still was a consort in an arranged marriage to a much older man.
dany, the child of three indeed, is everything they couldn't become. she didn't die tragically in her childhood despite everything, like the daughter of jae and alysanne did, she has become the queen regnant, she hatched and raised a totally new generation of dragons, and became the first dragonrider in more than 100 years. she will not die of "shivers", her dreams are already warning her about the dangerous, magical cold that she is destined to fight and win to save humanity.
dany is a daughter of another horrible king, aerys ii, and his mistreated sister-wife rhaella, like the second daenerys, yes. however, her own much older brother rhaegar died, she didn't become a part of another marriage pact with dorne after the death of her other brother viserys, she will not be a consort to a much older man in an arranged marriage (not anymore), she is the queen in her own right and her achievements already surpass those of the second daenerys.
grrm saw the opportunity to throw in even more layers for our dany, the real dany, to shine through every page of fire & blood, and honestly? he's so real for that.
