Aimé Chenavard designed the piece, Guillaume Denière cast the metalwork, and Jean-Jacques Feuchère sculpted the woman playing a guitar at the top. In the nineteenth century, grand candelabra were placed on formal dinner tables to hold multiple candles. Before electricity, they were used both as status symbols and to amplify flickering light across elite banquets. Following the duke's death in 1842, the original set was sold and dispersed.
