Post Reflection! YAY! (March 15)
This week I was really able to reflect on my everyday food choices. Not only did I find it hard to purchase foods that I would enjoy eating, it was hard to stick with it due to blandness. We donโt realize how much seasonings and sauces we add to everyday meals. I feel that if I was a better cook, I could make these bland foods more interesting and have more variety in my meals.
I found my biggest cheat to be adding peanut butter to my toast. I made a priority of having one tea in the week over buying a small jar of PB. I feel that if I was in an actual situation where I was on limited funds and I did not have access to cheat foods, I would have to be careful in monitoring my intake.ย
A challenge I faced this week was the influences of my social life. With room mates, it was hard to resist watching them snack and eat flavourful meals. On Wednesday, I ate mac and cheese before my friends arrived because I knew wing Wednesday was on the agenda. Therefore, I was full before going out with my friends so I could drink water and still be social.ย
If I had limited access to water, pots and pans or a microwave, this challenge would be virtually impossible.ย
If I was in dire need for a more well balanced diet but had limited funds and could only afford cheap things like pasta, there is a local food bank in Red Deer to access.

I am still experiencing a stuffy nose, which got worse while working in a dry environment. This is a rough time to have my immune system compromised with the Coronavirus pandemic going around. By not eating a well balanced diet, I feel like I negatively impacted my immune system.

I feel disappointed that majority of my plate with each meal included carbohydrates when they are supposed to take up ยผ of it. Some meals I ate cucumbers and the odd time I ate hot dogs. If I ate like this all the time, my overall health and well being will deteriorate, leading to health conditions like obesity and heart disease. Overall, I feel I was an active participant in this challenge and was able to prove to myself that I am able to control my eating habits and limit snacking. I will take this experience into future grocery shopping trips and meal preps.ย
Do you think I could manage another one of these challenges???
---Absolutely not.ย
