I p much never see people say positive things about the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH, big psych hospital in Toronto) and I even once had a crisis worker from the Canadian Mental Health Association (CMHA, series of community mental health clinics) hear me say that I don't personally know anyone who says good things about CAMH and she was like "Yeah, I... hear a lot of bad things about CAMH" which
On one hand, it feels very validating to know I'm not alone
On the other hand, what the fuck lmao????? They're one of the biggest hospitals in Canada and I don't see *anyone* saying how great they are outside of their own promotional materials??????????

Finally dragged my ass to CAMH. Now I have a 2 to 3 hour process to go through. And I cannot leave. Locked in with a bunch of other people waiting for whatever help we need. And I basically had to give them the right to in patient me if they see fit. Whatever that means.
I haven't had to have a doctor check me out of a healthcare facility in a long long time. I don't think this has happened since at least 2013. I think...
Anyway I'm anxious as fuck. Hungry, apparently they have sandwiches or some shit. Not that I need it but I could go for a coffee. I can't even go outside for a smoke.
At least they let me hold onto my Switch. That is going to help pass the time a lot. It's not like I have another 100 Smash characters to unlock. And there is wifi here. And I don't have to pay a nickle for this. Though any meds they may prescribe I can't afford. I don't know how that works. I'm on EI and I don't know of that covers anything to do with meds. Knowing my government I doubt it, but no harm in asking.
The goal here is to get someone to see regularly to regulate my medications and speak with about my various concerns. Maybe get a proper diagnosis of I have BPD or not.
I know why I am here and honestly that scares the fuck out of me. I'm shaking a bit and may or may not cry at any time. So here's hoping the next few hours go smoothly.

I'm a CAMH patient in Toronto and I think that people are not necessarily aware of current problems within CAMH
first of all, they have a strongly anti-medical cannabis stance, to a dangerous extent.
I knew someone who was admitted to their inpatient unit, and was promptly denied access to their medically prescribed weed.
this is especially interesting because of their freedom in prescribing more addictive, dangerous drugs (especially since they recieve funding from the pharma companies that produce them)
there is also a lot of stigma around addiction in their programs and facilities, like care professionals who will berate you and tell you that you "should just stop" should you open up about an experience with addiction
given that CAMH is where Toronto cops bring high and/or mentally ill arrests, it is a serious problem that they don't handle addiction well
the point is, CAMH is not the reformed, progressive, mental health care center that they pretend to be, and they should be held accountable for how they are failing their patients
