The Funky Quarters must have been a hell of a place – especially when Cal Tjader was bringing down the house with grooves this great! The record is one of Cal’s best electric sides from the 70s – and it boasts some amazing work on Fender Rhodes from Al Zulaica – a player we only know from a handful of Tjader records, and who has an amazing way of snaking in soulfully alongside the vibes! The group is small and tight – really just bass, drums, and congas – leaving plenty of room for the Fender Rhodes and vibes to intermingle wonderfully! (Dusty Groove).
