I caved and rewatched all the scenes that had MagnetMirror; they have taken over my brain I canât anymore.
Anyways, letâs start with episode three.
13:35â13â53 is the first time we see Casper and Odward interact on screen.
Itâs during the try-outs, right after Milo slips on his tama, Casper comes over to make fun of him to Odward, leaning against him, and hugging him, before Odward shoves him off and walks away.
Casper mentions something happening yesterday that Odward would be âsoreâ about (like upset or something), but I have no idea what it could be.
I thought maybe it had to do with Milo, but we learn later that Casper doesnât know theyâre siblings, so I donât see why Casper would think heâd be upset about making fun of him or anything.
In that same scene noticed a two things about their dynamic.Â
A) Casper is so happy to see his boyfriend I canât even, he immediately hugs him. Oh my god.
B) When Odward walks away heâs clearly upset but also perplexed by it.
Iâve seen a lot of people seem to think they were on and off, but Casper doesnât seem to have the reaction of someone whoâs used to Odward getting like this.
If they were on and off youâd expect him to upset, but also annoyed like âclassic Odwardâ. Instead he looks like a kicked puppy.
Later that same episode at roughly 19:40â20:48 During the break-up scene; the break-up scene starts by Casper over hearing that Milo and Odward are siblings, poking fun at the fact that Milo is so much worse than Odward.
It devolves into them fighting, and then Odward quitting the team(and more importantly; breaking up with Casper), along with throwing his Bards jacket at him.
Now, obviously, despite his claim to the contrary, Odward probably is just mad about Casper making fun of Milo, he can say otherwise all he wants, heâs not fooling me.
Then Casper says âIâm the only one that mattersâ. And thatâs it, thatâs what makes Odward so mad, because itâs basically him admitting he doesnât care about anyone else, including his boyfriend.
And Iâm sorry, but the way Casperâs voice cracks when Odward says heâs leaving the team, is so heartbreaking on a rewatch. Casper looks like a wet puppy.
Now, Casperâs reaction isnât to apologize, if it was to apologize Odward might have stayed; but no, because heâs fifteen, and prideful; he doubles down.
Casper says âwe can replace youâ, this is a sentence with a double meaning; on a first watch heâs talking about the team, but on a rewatch heâs basically saying he can get another boyfriend.
Which of course upsets Odward! So he quits/breaks up with him.
But I still canât tell if Milo is aware that theyâre dating; if they were breaking up, which they are, it make sense for Casper to says something like âI donât need youâ, but he doesnât he disguises it like theyâre just talking about the team.
So, maybe Milo doesnât know; or maybe by talking about the team Casper was trying to make it hurt less; or maybe Milo does know, but since Casper doesnât know that he knows heâs keeping it under wraps for Odwardâs sake; or even since they were already talking about the team neither of them want to make it anymore personal than it already feels.
Regardless, this scene is way sadder on a rewatch, theyâre both crying, their voices are breaking; props to the VAs, itâs super sad.
I donât have much to add to this scene though; itâs pretty clear on a rewatch.
In episode 4 at 20:00, during the banner scene, the twins see them when they came in.
Casper looks so heartbroken, Iâm not okay.
Heâs like âyou break up with me, to join this team?â
The way his sister talks makes me suspect that she doesnât know they were together.
She sees Odward as a traitor, simple. Iâm sure sheâd see him as a traitor no matter what, and maybe sheâs just hoping Casper will feel less bad if she talks like this. But, maybe she just wasnât aware of just how close they were.
Callista doesnât seem like sheâs the most socially aware, and itâs not clear how much the twins tell each other. I also wouldnât be surprised if Casper was as touchy with Odward as he is either everyone else.
I donât know! I hope season 2 makes it clear who knows, and who doesnât.
In episode 5 at 4:12, when they meet down at the market Callista and Casper have very different reactions to seeing Odward.
Callista is amused; she wants to see him squirm.
Casper is visibly upset, the wound is clearly still raw.
At 4:29â4:59 is when they actually talk at the market.
It is VERY clear that Casper is still hurt because he purposefully pokes at Odward to try to get a rise out of him.
Even when Key intervenes, Casper is still poking at Odward. Casper doesnât care about the knights, if Odward wasnât on their team, he would treat them the same as all the other teams.
Casper stands there for a few seconds even after Odward turns away; heâs probably hoping heâll look at him; when he doesnât, Casper walks way.
5:05â5:15 after the Bards leave, itâs shown that Odward is not as unaffected by the break-up as he pretends to be.
He blew up at Key for âfighting his battleâ, probably because the battle wasnât with the bards it was with Casper, and he just wanted to walk away, but Key kept poking.
At 5:45 and the rest of the episode Callista is the one to instigate every time after Odward left; like I said, Casper doesnât care about the Knights, he cares about Odward.
I think Callista sees that Casper is upset, but doesnât really understand why, so she defends him by taking it out on the knights.
At 22:40 Casper wants to have stopped the Knights, Callista does too, but Casperâs seems more emotional, while Callista seems that she just wants to pick on them.
Iâm not sure though; maybe Iâm just reading into it.
Callista also mentions having a plan to get back at them, but Iâm not sureâŚ
Wait, actually, I have a new theory, but Iâll discuss when I get to episode 11.
They donât interact again until episode 10 at 8:28â9:19.
Is the one where Odward and Key are looking for Ameline, they run into the twins.
We see, yet again, that Callista is against the Knights, Odwardâs just one of the knights. She gets in the face of Key, not Odward, thatâs important.
The other thing that happens is Casper saying to leave them alone; now this could be for any of three reasons, maybe more that Iâm not thinking of.
A) He started to feel bad about what happened with Odward.
B) He doesnât want to talk to Odward at all.
C) Heâs showing Odward what itâs like to be ignored.
Itâs probably C, but B makes sense, A is the least likely, given his pride.
Now, Odward had been angry all episode, so his reaction to this is the same reaction heâs had to pretty much everything else.
Also, Callista says âkiss and make upâ, when Casper tells her to leave them be, and I canât tell if sheâs making a dig at the relationship they used to have, or if sheâs just saying that because itâs a common phrase and itâs driving me crazy, who in-universe is aware of their relationship!
Episode 11, 5:53â5:57, is the first time Casper makes a dig at the Knights in general, and itâs while theyâre playing; about to play anyway; so to some degree I do think how much Casper insults teams is part of game play.
Now I have one theory for what Callistaâs plan was that she mentioned in episode 5. Their plan might have been to steal the armor; it wouldnât have taken them long given their tamaâs, and they do look a little guilty when Sunspear tells them the whole âa win without humiliating your opponent,â thing.
And when the time is running out they give each other a point.
I have another theory for what their plan might have been, but itâs mostly vibes, and I just think it would be really cool.
8:28â8:49, The twins throw around the knights the whole game; remember this.
9:08â9:15, Casper takes a did at Odward, and calls hums âOddieâ, no one can convince me this wasnât originally a pet name that Casper used to call him and is now using to mock him.
10:22â11:15 The scene that had me literally screaming, and I have been thinking about non-stop since I watched it.
Itâs the reveal scene of course.
Casper doesnât really use his tama anywhere nearly as much or as violently against Odward during this one-on-one as he has most of the game; heâs using mostly footwork (he does use his tama a bit, but mostly just to launch himself forward it looks like).
Now, obviously this is the big reveal scene, so I too was busy screaming to notice that theyâd both started crying on my first watch, and itâs only at that point that Callista intervenes, so she must know the history there, right? Right?
I donât know, he seemed distracted enough that she might noticed, but just might not notice know; if she doesnât know she will probably figure it out soon.
11:43â11:47, Callista and Casper fall from a super high height, high enough that a huge dust cloud appears; they were on the roof when they fell; wouldnât this kill a normal person? At least break some bones? What are these kids made out of? Anyway, this is important to remember.
At 13:25â15:54, the twins are not playing around, and mess with everybody in the air; they throw them around and stuff; remember this as well.
They also throw Key around for quite awhile until he breaks free.
At 16:52â16:58, Sunspear says to them his infamous âyou need to end Nagatastu, for goodâ, Iâve have a whole poll on this, with arguments, and you should check out the comment section; but I have more tos at about this whole event.
Only one this to say about this scene though; after saying his line, Sunspear adds âyou know what to doâ.
What if Callista, after the whole forge thing, really wanted revenge, and so brought up to Sunspear that they needed to exploit a weakness of his.
Sunspear at this point brought up whatever he actually meant by his evil sounding order; whether it was to injure Key, to bring up his mom, or to kill him.
Regardless, both in the scene we have, and if that scene just mentioned exists, the twins donât like it, and look decisively horrified.
Which would make sense if it was about his dead mom because itâs been confirmed their mom is also dead.
17:09, the twins are visibly uncomfortable, preparing for what they were told to do.
17:14â17:30, Key says one sentence, then Casper uses his tama to slam Key into the ground.Â
This is violent, sure, but we see people being smashed into the ground; it probably hurt no more than when they fell from the ceiling.
Remember what I said to remember? The twins have been throwing people around all game.
The main difference is that Casper doesnât play like that, at least not as much as his sister, or in this moment. He tends to fling people around; but mostly he uses his ability to walk on the ceiling.
The most violent thing Casper did up to this point was shortly after the game began he slammed Odward into Key.
The real thing that punctuates this scene, at least to me, is that Casper makes what sounds like a death threat, âYou wanna be like your mom? Sheâs gone. Why donât you join her?â Which definitely sounds like a death threat to me.
But maybe itâs just to scare Key, to emotionally break him enough that he stops fighting, and then even if the injury isnât that bad, heâll be taken out of the game just because heâs already checked out.
After this Casper makes a sound that sounds like heâs pleased with himself; which only proves to me more that the instigation is part of his play, and not his whole personality; we saw how horrified he was at having to do this.
19:00â19:12, the most infamous scene, Casper lying in the ground, he just got a full force of firing; scaring the right side of his face.
Obviously, Casperâs plan, whatever it was, backfired horribly.
Odward is the first one there, and he goes to cradle Casperâs body, quickly follow by Callista, and someone who I canât see.
Odward yells at Key, for obvious reasons.
I donât have much to add to this scene, itâs heartbreaking, but I donât see anything that isnât obvious.
Does this post have any point? No, not really, I donât have any grand things to say, just some food for thought.
